Pregnant after 35

Chances of NOT having an early miscarriage

Just found this post and it was very reassuring for me!!! User @DutchLucyLu posted this and I am so thankful, this is the post:

User @l4rk from the January 2016 BMB found that she only felt a little bit better after looking at statistics about this topic, and she realised why;
"...articles on miscarriage focus on the chances you're going to miscarry and all the comments share miscarriage stories--they don't focus on how many people DON'T have miscarriages and go on to have happy, healthy babies!"
So she inverted this week-by-week chart to focus on the chances of NOT having an early miscarriage. I found it very reassuring when I first read it (before I was even pregnant) and it has since been shared on a few other BMBs, where it was well-received. I hope it will ease your minds as well. Every day that we are pregnant, the chances of everything going RIGHT increase!

Re: Chances of NOT having an early miscarriage

  • This is awesome. My husband was just telling me to be more optimistic about this pregnancy, but I can't get past the numbers. Last night he said "well what's the percentage of NOT miscarrying?" Here it is! I am definitely sharing w him! Thank you @yolandamunoz

  • This is a great way to look at it! Thanks for sharing.
  • Exactly the point! We should look at this the other way around, the optimistic way, the most likely way. Best wishes to you all!

  • I looked at this chart every day until around 7 weeks.
    TTC#1 since Jan 2015
    BFP 2/19/15  •  MMC found at 9 wks  •  D&E at 11 wks (age 36)
    BFP 8/29/15
      •  CP (age 37)
    BFP 11/18/15  •  DD born at 41 weeks <3(age 37/38)

    TTC#2 since May 2017
BFP 10/18/17  •  MMC found at 8 wks  •  Misoprostal at 10.5 wks (age 39)

    BFP 2/16/18
      •  CP (age 39)
    BFP 4/13/18
      •  CP (age 39)
    BFP 5/07/18  •  MMC found at 10.5 wks  •  D&E at 11.5 wks
    •  Testing showed it was a girl with Trisomy 22. (age 39/40)
9/5/18 Diagnosed with diminished ovarian reserve (4-5 follicles, one ovary had none and was very atrophied)

RE says the low egg count is likely causing my recurrent pregnancy loss. Less eggs results in more aneuploidy.

    BFP 9/24/18  •
    CP (age 40)
    BFP 5/11/19  •  Fraternal twins  •  MMC found at 10w5d (Baby A 6w, Baby B 10w)  •  Misoprostal at 11 weeks (age 41)

  • Thank you for this! I have been looking at the opposite chart to ease my mind, but it's just so much more optimistic this way! DH is already so excited, and I am trepidatious abut getting too attached. We're in week 5.
