I'm scheduled for a HSG test on Thursday after years of TTC and I've been on Clomid for three months (but not this month due to the test). I'm about to turn 37 and hoping for some positive results. I know everyone is different but has anyone stopped Clomid, had a HSG test and had a BFP soon after?
Thanks!
Re: Anyone had a HSG test?
For some people, it's not painful, but for some (me) it hurts a lot. Make sure you take whatever they recommend for pain (ibuprofen, probably) before the procedure, and make sure you have some down time afterwards. And remember that as soon as the procedure is over, it stops hurting! (Cramping is normal the rest of the day, but the pain stops.)
So be ready to breathe, and ready to tell yourself "do not kick the doctor in the head," and have something nice and relaxing planned afterwards, likely involving chocolate.
And yes, a freshly flushed pair of tubes does increase your fertility for the next couple months!
7 IUIs, 7 BFNs.
2 IVF attempts, both cancelled and converted to IUI, both BFNs.
Decided that my tired old ovaries are ready to retire.
Next step- reciprocal IVF, using my wife's eggs, my uterus!
fresh 5 day transfer (2 embryos) 4/17/17- BFP!
Identical twins "due" 1/2/17 (but anticipated arrival sometime December)
To your point I have been told that HSG can possibly increase your chances of getting a BFP but I wouldn't bank on it. Also not sure how going off clomid will effect you but if you need clomid to ovulate it may be a no go month for you. All the HSG really does to help with getting pregnant (from my research) is kind of lube things up and possibly make your lining a little more "sticky" and possibly clear out any minor adhesion's that might have been messing with implantation. Bottom line is its a diagnostic procedure not a fertility treatment. Maybe you will get lucky though! Im personally crossing my fingers that this next month will be my "lucky" month and I dont have to go back for another try at the HSG next cycle ha ha.
