  • @mrsmartinez16: I've used wayfair a few times--good experiences all! I'd say a white chandelier would match fine.

@Jerseygirl9090 I have been doing core workouts from the 10 minute prenatal pilate series (on YouTube) but am planning on scaling back in a few weeks. There is a YouTube video if you look up "Prenatal Workout Heidi Klum" that has some safe ab exercises in it that I plan on doing until labor (hopefully). They are suppose to work the transverse abs (which don't cause the abs to separate, whatever that's called). I've also been doing planking which is supposed to be safe. I hate planking though!

  • @ahernandez16 - My DH and I are buying a lot of the big ticket items ourselves. We figured no way were any of our friends going to spend that much money on any of our gifts. I bought the car seat myself because I found an awesome deal on it. I put another car seat base for DH's car on the registry and one of my friends got that for me. Basically if I find a killer deal on something, I'm going to buy it and then take whatever it was off the registry. Same with baby clothes, I'm buying whatever I think is cute because I'm obsessed.
  • @ahernandez16 DH & I have bought some things ourselves. We bought our travel system & breast pump, since they were expensive & we bought them when they were on sale. I think as a FTM its fine to be getting some things yourself. You'll still get plenty at the shower...plus, even with a registry people will still buy things that aren't on it. You're ensuring that you're getting the things for baby that you really want! :)

  • @DeePaddy24 @chelseay416 glad it's not just me. I figure we'll buy the majority of the bigger ticket items and maybe leave one on the registry (my family likes to go halfsies, or split big things 3 or 4 ways) and then if we don't get it, we'll get the registry discount, no big deal. I just wanted to make sure I wasn't committing some big baby shower crime. Lol.
  • @mkemommy it would be hard to say what the best find was as it went into SO MUCH detail about every item from car seats to high chairs to changing tables etc. I think I found the information on crib mattresses the most helpful mainly because thats not really a topic I find a lot of us have discussed/or that I've discussed with my sisters/family on what they got (Guess its not a flashy or fun item to be talking about like the other stuff!) but they recommended a firm foam mattress as they are less expensive than coil mattresses and a lot lighter to move when changing sheets/etc. I am registering for (on their advice) the Lullaby Earth™ Super Lightweight Baby Crib & Toddler Mattress .

I also changed the crib I was going to get based on their recommendation. I had been eyeing the Million Dollar Baby brand but read that while they do use wood, they use Pine which has a tendency to scratch/damage more easily so I will instead be going with the Baby Appleseed brand.

I really recommend picking up the book, I paid about $10 on Amazon for it, and you don't need to read it cover to cover like I did, you can use it more as a glossary to look up particular items you're interested in! They also have a website (you have to buy a subscription) but it gives you access to thousands of reviews on all products!

  • @mkemommy: I started a registry at Babies R Us, and we'll likely do a Target and maybe Amazon also.
  • @BakerBird525 you and I both have our scans tomorrow morning!  Will be sending good vibes :)
  • Questions? I actually have one. Every time we buy something baby related my family gets annoyed and says, "you could've waited and got that for your shower!" Are FTMs just supposed to wait til their shower to buy things and see what they get? What did/are you guys doing? I want to buy our crib and at least one of the two car seats we plan to get but I'm afraid I'll get executed.
I feel like I got hardly any practical things at the shower and the things I did were smaller like a bottle warmer.  You can always return things if you end up with dups.

  • @mrsschmity I can't believe you have waited this long for your FIRST ultrasound. You have the patience of a saint. I would have lost my shit by now.

    Rant/Rave/Symptoms?
Rant: SO TIRED. Being at work right now sucks
Rave: Looking forward to starting to put together the nursery. Even though we plan on keeping it fairly gender neutral, knowing our LO is a boy certainly makes a difference when we are thinking of decorating options...
Symptoms: I guess this could be classified as a symptom... my hips hurt SO much. Sleeping on my side is killing me and no pillow configuration appears to be helping yet.

What are you doing to prepare for baby? Doing research on car seats this week

Questions? Do you think if I got one of those wedge pillow that has me at an incline I can sleep on my back? I know sleeping flat on your back isn't advised but this side sleeping is just not working for me.

GTKY: What is your favorite summertime activity? Favorite? As in just one? Ugh.... can't do that...Drinking white wine or a cold beer outside with my husband. Laying out in the sun. Brunches. Taking long walks. The list goes on and on....
