My 10 week old literally poops once every 3-4 days!!! When he finally goes, it's very soft, not hard. The pediatrician keeps telling me this is normal, and he's not constipated because his poop is soft, but, this is not normal to me! This is my 3rd child and the first time this has ever happen. He gets really frustrated, cries and tries to push but nothing comes out. Is anyone else dealing with this??
Re: How often is your baby pooping??
Our pedi did have us with lo #3 give him 1oz prune juice 1oz water to get him regular.
When he was born, the hospital pediatrician told us that as long as his poops aren't bloody or white like clay, and as long as he's not passing solid poops yet, just about anything is normal, including only going every few days. If you're concerned, keep in touch with your pediatrician; that's what you pay them for, after all.
ETA he has now pooped through not one but 2 sleep sacks tonight. We just did all the laundry yesterday. It's like he senses it.
DS2 is 7w, EBF and poops almost constantly. It just leaks out all the time. Doc says both cases are normal for breastfed babies and there is no cause for concern if baby is otherwise well and gaining weight.
