Trying to Get Pregnant

TTC after Ectopic

My husband and I found out a week or so before Christmas that we were pregnant with our second. After a few days I had some irregular spotting which brought us to the emergency room. At that point everything seemed fine and I was sent home but began following my hcg levels through the women's clinic to make sure everything was okay. My levels were rising over the course of a few weeks, but slowly. We had an ultrasound booked and found that there was no evidence of an intrauterine pregnancy, but there was a mass beside my left ovary. A few more tests and it was diagnosed as probably ectopic. I chose to have the laparoscopic surgery for removal. I had no other symptoms so my obgyn figured it would be a fairly simple procedure to "flush" out the pregnancy. Once in she discovered a lot more bleeding and did a removal of my left fallopian tube. I have been told this shouldn't affect my chances of future fertility, and since the unhealthy tube was removed my chances of a second ectopic have lowered. She advised me to wait until i had 1 normal period before trying again. I'm wondering if anyone else has dealt with an ectopic pregnancy and trying again. Nervous on what to expect but we really want to be able to try again for another.

Re: TTC after Ectopic

  • Hi I'm so sorry. I had an ectopic pregnancy two years ago. I got pregnant 2 months later with my son. I'm currently TTC again and got pregnant last month (chemical pregnancy) .

Like you, I only have one tube and have been pregnant twice since the removal of my left tube.

My doctor said that the tube you still have can actually sweep over and pick up the egg if you ovulate from the tubeless side.

Anyway, I hope this gives you some peace of mind. Granted my experience won't dictate yours but, do not lose hope.

I try to act as if I have both tubes and treat every month equally despite what side I think I am ovulating on.

I know 2 women that have had ectopics and both have since had healthy pregnancies.
