Sleeping Arrangements

We are expecting baby #3 in about 10 weeks and are struggling with what to put the baby in. We have decided to not move DD(4) and DS(6)out of their current rooms in order to accommodate the baby since the baby will spend so much time in our room and we plan on moving in about a year. With the first two we had the pack n play in our room and then transitioned them to a crib in their own room. Well the pack n play will no longer fit in our room unless we do some redecorating (option but last resort). Are there any bassinets that will get me through the ~ first 5-6 months (obviously if the baby shows signs of sitting up, etc I would have to transition sooner) Halo swivel sleeper? Graco Dream Suite? Arms Reach? I would like something that could fit next to my side of the bed. Co-sleeping in our bed isn't an option because it makes DH extremely nervous.

Thanks!!

Re: Sleeping Arrangements

  • Have you looked at other smaller options similar to a traditional pack and play? The European design ones tend to be much more compact.

  • The mini arms reach cosleeper doesn't take up much room at all. That's what I will be using bc I don't have much space in my room either. I used the mini with my second child and he slept in it until 6 months old and then I transitioned him to a crib in his own room.
  • Check out this item at Target https://www.target.com/p/graco-pack-n-play-travel-lite-playard/-/A-15290543

Im debating between this and a regular bassinet myself for baby #2 lots of good reviews.
  • We have a full sized crib in the nursery, but a mini crib in our bedroom. It's exactly what it sounds like, a smaller sized crib. The mattress can be positioned really high up for when the baby is young; I could get my son out of it at night without getting out of bed. The mattress can also be lowered when the baby starts sitting up/pulling himself up the sides. Mine took up less space than the pack and play. Found it on Amazon.
  • I have about 6 weeks left to go, but I got a mini Arms Reach for mine! Hoping he loves it, but my friends baby only slept in his Fisher Price Rock 'N Play which is also small and something to consider
  • I will 2nd checking out the rock n play options. My DS3 slept in one entirely too long (like 8 months- not that I'm recommending 8 months, but you could definitely get away with 5-6) because he had awful reflux and that was the ONLY place he'd sleep.  There's a buckle in it which we most definitely used once he got stronger.  They take up very little space and also fold super flat, it was great for taking on vacation actually!

  • Mini cribs are a great option for small rooms - even target sells them now
  • Our crib doesn't fit in either room and we can't get rid of guest room bed due to people coming from out of town to stay with us and meet the baby.... So, our plan is for him to sleep in the pack n play bassinet until he out grows it, then the pack n play until he's big enough (read: mommy is comfortable enough) with him being in the office in his crib.

We're contemplating turning the office into his room. You have to walk through it to get into the master, but, it's much closer than the guest room which is on the other side of the house and down three step stairs on the first level of our split level house. I'm planning on vacuuming when he's little while he naps, having music on, talking normally, and watching tv during naps so he gets use to sleeping through noise.
