Re-Intro & move from Chicago to Minneapolis

Good Morning & TGIF ladies :)

I originally joined in June of 2015 but have been rather quiet as of late. My DH & I had a rough fall/winter, he lost his job & my life became much more stressful as a result which doesn't really help (as you know) when you're already stressing out because your body just doesn't want to cooperate or become pregnant.

Luckily, my DH just landed an incredible job in Minneapolis which has relocated us from our home in Chicago. Being brand new in the cities (arrived January 1st!) I would love to make some new (even if internet only) friends & connections. I am currently calling myself a temporary housewife as I was unable to transfer & currently seeking new employment. I have a 2nd round interview on Monday morning though- so fingers crossed :)

I have been officially off BC for 1 year next week & although officially TTC since then, started temping & using FF in April of 2015. I recently turned 31 and until the end of December held a very stress filled job at a large bank. While I definitely believe work induced stress & anxiety could & likely did impact my ability to get pregnant, the longer it takes the more I feel frustrated with myself & my body. I, like a lot of women my age, spent a long time on & off various BC methods, namely the pill & the ring. It's difficult knowing that THAT could be a cause of why I'm unable to conceive now. Knowing that 10 years ago I would have given anything NOT to have a baby & welcomed BC & would now give anything to not see AF come to town.

I wanted to give myself a full year of TTC without going to the doctor as I felt this is what most women did & didn't think I would have an issue (sigh) getting KTFU. As my 1 year approaches, I've decided that once my new health insurance kicks in from DH's new gig, I will be looking for assistance.

Any MPLS ladies who can recommend not only a regular OB/GYN but also an RE (we have BCBS) would be much appreciated!

It's funny how until you're TTC you never notice how much pregnancy is thrown in your face, it's all...over...everything, media, TV, movies, magazines, even when you're out at the store you start to notice it more. Or your friends... suddenly all of your friends are baby crazy or pregnant & wondering when "you're going to start trying"... getting married in 2015 that was THE QUESTION I was asked more than anything, especially this past holiday season, ooO when are you two going to start trying, bla bla bla--- people just assume you aren't trying yet, or won't have issues. My favorite is when my friends (who have children) JUST KNOW that I'M TOTALLY NOT INFERTILE, like it's TOTALLY NOT POSSIBLE NOT ME- no... not me.

But yes, yes me.

Sorry to rant, but being new to this city & home alone while my DH is at work, it gives me a bit of time to think. I love my friends don't get me wrong, it's just hard to be fake positive ALL THE TIME & there's only so much non positivity my friends can handle @ a time :/

Let's end on a positive note, I know this community is very tight-knit & I've been meaning to get back into the swing of things for awhile. I'm hoping to make some connections thru here & get some great MPLS suggestions (huge foodie here!) from some fellow MPLS ladies.

I hope you all have a lovely weekend & wish you the best in your TTC journey <3

Re: Re-Intro & move from Chicago to Minneapolis

  • Welcome! Sorry you have to join us here and hopefully your stay won't be too long!!

I don't have any recommendations about Drs in Minneapolis but that is where I'm originally from! Well about 20 min west from downtown) and miss the area like crazy. I always treated through Park Nicollet clinics and absolutely loved all my providers through them. Its been awhile since I've lived there so not too many food recommendations but be sure to explore both Minneapolis and St. Paul as they are two completely different vibes! If you and DH are into beer, be sure to schedule a (free) tour and tasting at Summit Brewery in St Paul. The Summit neighborhood is really cool too with tons of places to eat and shops. There are a ton of micro brews popping up all over that I've heard great things about. Surly Brewery I think is another one in Minneapolis that recently opened. Not sure where you are in the city, uptown is a cool place in Minneapolis and near Lake of the Isles (about 3 to 4 lakes all connected) that have great walking paths and superb people watching.

I totally hear you on the being on BPCs forever and freaking out over getting KU and now it's exactly the opposite.

Good luck on your interview Monday!! You are going to rock it!!

  • Hi!

Thanks so much for the reply :)

DH has a "slight" beer obsession so we'll definitely have to check those places out!

We're right near Uptown & Lake of the Isles, about 2 blocks from Lake Calhoun! I cannot wait until winter is over so we can explore OUTSIDE (outside of the car of course lol!) & I can always use a little people watching hehe!

Thanks again for the luck :)

  • Welcome to MN! Dr. Randall Corfman at the Midwest Center of Reproductive Health in Maple Grove is one of the top 3 in the country. Google him - he's done some awesome things! We met with him as he provides services at other remote locations and were impressed. We live up in the middle of nowhere and have to drive 2 hours each time I need an ultrasound or lab work! Check out Dr. Corfman though. Good luck!!

  • ***Signature warning, lurker...

Hi! Welcome to Minnesota!! I used Center for Reproductive Medicine in St. Paul, but they also have a Minneapolis office, which is where I did IVF. I met Dr. Kuneck (he did my retrieval) there, who also was my friend's RE. I really liked him. Minneapolis would be much more convenient to where you live. :) Good luck! Let me know if you have specific questions.
    *** Child & current pregnancy mentioned ***

7/2013 - Sweet baby girl born (Clomid + TI)
    3/2014 - TTC #2, return to RE 7/2014
12/2015: IVF #1 transferred two great looking embryos - BFP!
First ultrasound: TWO beautiful little heartbeats!!
Harmony: negative; level 2: babies look great and are boy/girl! :)
  • No tips, nor am I from around. (You'll find me all the way in Europe) but wanted to say hi and welcome.
Hope you don't have to join us too long!
