What bottles did you love ?

So I Will be formula feeding baby I did with DS and it worked best for us but I used DR. brown bottles and hated them because they were such a pain to clean and keep track of the parts.
just looking to see what bottles others have used and were happy with ... I was looking at tommee tippy, avent or the new munchkin bottles any suggestions? :)

Re: What bottles did you love ?

  • I'm using Tommee Tippy this time. I have friends that used them and think were great.
  • We used avent for 2/3 feedings a week and I loved them. They were easy to clean, cheap and never had any issues with gas.
My EBF baby had no issues accepting them starting at 3 weeks. I know you're FF but I thought I'd add that for other people following.

  • My first used Avent. He only had one or two a day while I was working but they were pretty easy to clean. My second wouldn't really take a bottle, but would occasionally accept a Tommee Tippee. It was equally easy to clean, but again we weren't using either kind frequently, so I don't know if that makes a difference?

  • I like Avent. They have the classic, and now they came out with natural. I've only used the classic ones though. I like that they are wider bottles, makes them easier to clean.
  • Does anyone use glass bottles? My sister in law strongly recommends them. Curious about others' experiences.
  • Tommee Tippee bottles worked great for us and they have anti colic bottles too. Once DS was a little older he started liking the Nuk and Avent bottles. As for the glass bottles I have a friend who swears by them but as many times as I dropped, let alone DS, one they just freak me out.

  • Tommy Tippee. We love them. Super easy to keep clean and put together quickly.

  • FTM but my Aunt has been fostering newborn+ for 25 years.... She said to have a couple of different styles because some babies (included newborns) are picky about nipples... But overall, her most favorite are Dr. Browns and she said that there's a different type of nipple that fits Dr. Browns that's a serious colic reducer. Shr made it seem like they were hard to find because whenever she finds them she stocks up. She mailed me 3 packs of those nipples. I have a couple tommy tippee, a few natural avent, and several dr. Brown. Ill let the baby decide when the time comes what he likes best and what's good for him in terms of reducing gas etc.
  • We used mostly avent bottles for DS
  • I used dr browns with dd! She breastfed, but for outings or if someone watched her she used those bottles. We bought preemie nipples even though she was not preemie. It was suggested to avoid nipple confusion and worked great. I guess it's good because they still have to work hard to get the milk, like they would have to with breast! We used preemie ones for about a month!

  • I used Avent bottles with DS1 and loved them. I will be using them again if we end up formula feeding this baby too.

  • DD wasn't very picky and maybe because we started bottle feeding once a day since she was about 3 weeks.  We used Tommy Tippie because they are easy to clean (wide opening) and the anti-colic ones worked quite well for DD.  Too bad they do not have a glass version.  We also used Avent glass bottles at home.  We got some dr. brown ones from BabiesRUs (they give out free seasonal bottle with $15 purchase) but they are serious a pain to clean and put back together.  I heard they are best for babies with bad colic though.

My friend's son was very picky with the bottle and the only one he would take was TT.  I would not stock up a whole lot of bottles until I find out what this LO will take.
  • I am a tommy tippie mom!!! I used them with my DD and will again with DS!! I never had any issues with them at all and my DD loved them!! We kept some NUK and Avent around for extras and she seemed ok with those once she got older BUT tommy tippie are always my go to!! Toys R Us was just having a BOGO sale on them too!!!
  • We used Playtex Ventaire. DS didn't have to stop to let the air bubbles out because they would vent out through the top of the bottle while he was drinking.

    Anniversary

  • We liked ventaire and dr brown. Both were good for pumping, FYI. My daughter refused the bottle for a long time so we tried about all of them!
  • I bought MAM for this time around. I used avent last time around which were okay but not ideal the first few months. Lots of spilling out of the sides of baby's mouth.

  • I used Tommee Tippee with DD (and she liked MAM pacifiers). This time I'm going to try Nuk brand because I'm also going to try nursing again and use Nuk pacifiers. The shape of the Nuk nipples are supposed to be like how your nipple is while nursing and also...I learned very late in the game that with Nuk bottles, you can just buy silicone sippy tips and use the same bottles for their sippy cups!!! Way cheaper than buying a shitload of different sippy cups to see what brand your kid likes. LOL

I used glass Avent bottles. I have a friend who used glass Dr.Brown and I thought she was crazy at first, but after spending time with her and her also I liked them. I have a couple silicone sleeves for the bottles that supposedly help with grip and would probably keep them from breaking in minor falls, but I never really used them because they were a hassle to put on and take off when cleaning. DD used bottles 3 days a week and we never broke any. My friend broke 2 with her first baby, but she used bottles for every feeding and also sent them to day care daily so they got a lot more use.

Glass bottles are easy to clean and sterilize. Don't use them if you plan on letting your LO use a bottle past a year or so or if they insist on holding it themselves, because then you probably will have to deal with breaking!

  • For us the bottle choice ended up being totally up to each kid regardless of what I wanted. One liked Playtex Ventaires and one would absolutely only take Dr. Browns. I suggest not stocking up on any particular kind. I had to go out and buy every single bottle they had at Target to get my second DS to take one and it turned out to be the last one I tried because I was trying to avoid the Dr. Browns because of all the parts. I ended up donating a lot of bottles and spending a lot of money and almost in tears. Definitely don't invest a ton in bottles until you know what they will accept. I would buy one of each with three different nipple types and start there. My mistake was that my first DS liked the big nipples that were more like nursing so I assumed my second must want something that was like nursing, turns out he only liked tiny skinny nipples. You just don't know. Same with pacifiers.

Totally agree! I have a friend who gave her son a glass bottle and he ended up dropping it.  The broken glass also scraped his toe and the poor little thing was bleeding (and screaming in tears of course) for good 5 minutes. Also not all daycare will allow glass bottle for similar reasons.  DH broke one of ours during cleaning but luckily he was the only one in the kitchen and didn't get hurt.
  • Does anyone have any experience/thoughts on the Kiinde system? I love how the breast milk gets pumped directly into the storage bags with their line of attachments for a ton of the breast pump manufactures, then the bags of milk can go into the fridge or freezer. When you are ready to use the milk it can go right into the warming station (which is included in their starter set) to then be connected with their bottle system.
I just received the starter set from my registry and am pretty excited but don't know of anyone with first-hand experience with this system. The bag costs will probably add up but I am not looking to use this system full-time, just on occasion so for our lifestyle I think it will work. I am a little worried about LO not taking to this type of bottle but I figure I will cross that bridge if I get there.
  • FTM -Tommy Tippee was recommended to me by a friend so this is what I've registered for.  I've been given a couple Avent bottles (free 'sample' with baby registry) so at least I have a back-up option available.
  • At my baby shower I was given Munchkin Latch set but I don't really know how they are. Anyone used them before?

@jnhuri - One of my good friends uses the Kiinde system with her 11 week old and they love it. I received the Tommee Tippee Pump and Go set which is basically the same thing so I'll be trying that instead of the Kiinde.
  • Almost everyone we know used Dr Brown's for their babies, and because of that DH figures it's the best one. However, I really don't want to have to deal with cleaning all of the parts on a regular basis. It was frustrating enough when I had to clean them the days I'd watch my godson. The kind I want to use is Avent for multiple reasons, including the fact that it's so highly recommended over here. So, we compromised and registered for both. If we end up with both, we'll see which one LO likes better. Either way, I'm hoping to breastfeed as much as possible, and this is all as a just in case. Also, our insurance covers Medela brand breast pumps, and, since our local Babies R Us has such a large section of Medela products, we registered Medela bottles as well just to see.

  • FWIW I have a lot of mom friends and all of us ended up with Dr Browns by our second or third child just by trial and error. The parts washing seems intimidating but it's really not a big deal. I use the dishwasher and scrub out the tube quickly before I drop them in. Takes like an extra minute for all of them.

DH's best friends girlfriend is due the week before we are... They're also FTPs but have no baby experience... She registered for the Kiinde set and everything, I tried to explain that babies can be very picky and she might want to wait to see what he likes first but they went ahead with the system. It looks like a great time saver to not have a ton of bottles to wash but I don't know if that makes them better.

From my experience growing up in my teen years with my parents taking in foster infants and the advice of my mom and aunt (she fosters newborns/infants for 25 years) we got three different types of bottles, but have erred more on the Dr. Brown side in case he's got colic as that's the brand my aunt has had the most success with colicky babies. We kept the gift receipts for these bottles so we can return the others if he likes Dr Brown first. The other brands we were given are Avent Natural and Tommy Tippee.

With that said, I would be too nervous to go with a specific system until I know baby will accept the nipple from that bottle. Unfortunately, they don't often go with convenience for mom and dad when they decide what they like! :)
  • @tJaffe Everything is still in the box and can easily be returned! My oldest niece had colic so we have Dr Brown bottles as well since I have seen first hand how much of a difference those bottles can make. I just am intrigued by this system so am willing to give it a shot. If baby is not happy, then we'll try something else.
  • Comotomo bottles worked great for my daughter. Silicone and wide mouth so they were easy to clean and very easy for her to hold. Never had any issue with the nipples and we started adding bottles at 3.5w and switched to pumping exclusively at 6w. She liked them way better than my boobs, I can tell you that.
