Clomid- Time & Side Effects

Hi everyone!
Just spoke to my RE/OBGYN about our new plan. If there's a BFN this round, I will start Clomid(about next week). I was wondering when everyone took theirs and if they had any side effects? I'm really nervous as I have a very sensitive stomach. And since the last time I took a new med(morphine), I had an extremely bad reaction and found out I'm allergic, I've been avoiding taking any medicine. DH says I'm paranoid and everything will be fine, but it scared me.
Any tips/things that helped you, would be great!

THANKS!

Re: Clomid- Time & Side Effects

• I took mine at night, before bed (I think the RE's office may have specifically told me to take it at night). The pill isn't coated, and I found it kind of gross tasting, so I would pick up a fancy chocolate bar each cycle I used Clomid and have a square after the pill...just a little self care :)

As for side effects, it really varies for different people. I had a weird ache in my shoulder all 3 cycles (same place, same time in cycle), and my acupuncturist thought it could be related to how changing hormone levels can change pain sensitivity. My last cycle I felt that it may have increased my anxiety levels. I think the major thing is to tell your RE about your side effects and make sure you are comfortable communicating, so you can switch up the meds next cycle if Clomid is not a good option for you.

• Thank you! I'll definitely try chocolate with it.... my favorite :)
I usually call my doctor about once a week now, lol, so I think communication is good. We plan on one cycle with Clomid then the next with Fermera. She told me some people respond better to one over the other.
Did you write symptoms down or chart anything during? And how do you like acupuncture?!

• Hey there! Just wanted to say I'm in the same boat. Whenever my new cycle starts (should be this weekend-early next week), I'll be starting my first round of Clomid (to hopefully shorten my long cycles)

When I was on BCP I always had to take it right before bed because otherwise I would get incredibly nauseous so I was thinking of doing the same with Clomid just in case.

Good luck to you!

• I just finished my first round of clomid. I took it at night before bed at about the same time each evening. I felt a little bloated and a little pain the first few days. Starting with day 12, I felt light my bladder was full all the time and needing to go to the bathroom. I also had some severe pain and vomiting. I had to have an ultrasound to see what was going on. It showed I had a few large follicles, that are needed to drop. I had to deal with the pain, but doctor gave me some pain meds. Also, it seems like LH surge is taking its good old time to get here.
Good luck to you!

I did not write down symptoms or chart. I have issues with sleeping (falling asleep, staying asleep, etc.), and temping just did not work for me--either I wasn't getting a solid amount of sleep all at once before waking up, or I was nervous about not getting a solid amount of sleep in order to temp and that was not helping things.

And yes, some people respond well to Clomid, others don't. If you do respond well, I would encourage you to think seriously (and talk to your RE, of course) before switching--mine was very much in favor of sticking w/the Clomid since I responded well (multiple follicles of good size, no lining thinning) and convinced me when I thought switching would be more aggressive.

I really like acupuncture. I had never done it before, and I go to a provider who specializes in fertility (natural cycles and IUI/IVF cycles). If nothing else, it was 30 minutes where I was lying in a room and relaxing. Edited to add that a big part of what she said the point was while I was on Clomid was to reduce/treat side effects.

• Hi! I just finished my second round of clomid on Monday (aside from using it a few years ago). What dosage are they going to give you? I take 50mg days 5-9, and feel cramps, acne, headaches, emotional and have hot flashes like a mofo. I know it's different for everyone and those symptoms could be from endo as well.

6 rounds of clomid
5 rounds of iui
Several HSG's sprinkled throughout the years to up my chances of a BFP
Several dilation of cervix because they suspect the scar tissue is hindering it from fully opening (partially adds to the severe cramps all month)
IVF #1 Gonal F, Menopur and Cetrotide

FET 1/10/2017
Gallbladder surgery 1/10/2017
FET estimated end of Feb, beginning of March

• I just finished my third cycle yesterday (first time it worked and I had a mc, unrelated to any clomid or anything) and then last cycle and this is third. I feel like I can't control my emotions and the hot flashes are INSANE. today (cd10) I have aching ovaries which I've been told is a great sign.

good luck! just stay positive and take deep breaths before you flip out on someone ;)
