Re: **2nd Tri Check-In 1/18** NEW LEADER NEEDED IN 2 WEEKS

  • I'm 26w 1d now!! I failed my glucose screening and had to do the 3 hour glucose tolerance test. I passed that! What a relief. It wasn't too bad...just hard fasting and sitting at the lab for 3 hours. I was sooooo hungry and thirsty when I left there. I have my next U/S next Monday. Can't wait to see how baby girl has grown. I am really feeling this little one now! It's pretty awesome. Can't believe I am so close to the 3rd trimester now. The time really does fly. Hope everyone is well and enjoying their pregnancy!

  • @krbjoy glad you passed the 3 hour!! And that's so exciting you're almost in the 3rd tri! I can take over the check in if no one else wants to!

I'm 21w 3D and loving all the movements I'm feeling. But every time I get DHs hand on my belly he stops moving lol. I'm excited to start on the nursery and go shopping again for furniture. (We went once just to get ideas and figure out what we like)

I'm on the fence about having a sprinkle. My friend REALLY wants to throw me one but I've never been to one and it's not the norm for my circle of friends. Anyone have any thoughts or opinions on this???

  • Glad you passed the 3hr @krbjoy! I only have my screening scheduled at 28 weeks...don't know why they're doing it so late. It makes me worry too because my last two OB appointments, they didn't check my urine at all...I'll talk to them about it next time. I'm feeling great and baby is kicking like crazy (he was having a kick fest in my upper belly just as I was finishing up an assessment with a kid this morning! Thank god I had my clipboard sort of hiding my belly, because he would have definitely seen it move!).

We painted the nursery last weekend! That was exciting! And we got organizer from Ikea for the closet, so we'll be putting those up on Saturday. We're also getting all carpets cleaned on Friday (they were due, amd we figured we may as well do that before furniture gets delivered, which will happen next Friday).

I'm 25 weeks now, and it's crazy to think there's only 15 weeks before we meet our little guy! If it wasn't for the big belly and the kicks, I'd still have to pinch myself to believe this little miracle is really happening!

@NB817 : I had never heard of a sprinkle before seeing something about that on my BMB. It's definitely not something that's done here, although people will always get gifts for a baby, whether it's a first or third (you just get more/bigger things for a first, typically at a shower). Our situation is a bit complicated because we live 6 hrs away from our families and most of our friends (we moved for DH's work 2 years ago). We're going back at the end of February for one last time before I give birth because my dad is turning 60. The initial plan was that a shower would have to be held the same day, which wasn't ideal. I also didn't particularly want one, so we decided to have a 'welcome baby BBQ' at my parents this summer instead. We had already bought most of the big things anyway, and I was particular about certain things I wanted. So we're hoping to get more toys/books, etc in the summer instead. And we figured it was a nice way for our family to get to meet him as they won't get to see him much otherwise. We used to visit quite a bit, but that decreased with the fertility treatments, and I don't see how pleasant driving 6 hrs will be with a baby.

So I'd say it all depends on what you feel comfortable with. Showers (or any event) in my family involve having 50+ people. I guess for you it all depends on who would be invited...just a few really close friends, or everyone and their sisters? I might feel comfortable with the first, but wouldn't be with having a huge thing again. But that all depends on what you're comfortable with.
  • Hi mommies! I'm new and excited to be here, just starting my second trimester this week  EDD July 20, 2016. Can't believe how slow / fast my first trimester went by. In the beginning it felt like it was moving at a snails pace, and now it feels like it's moving at rocket speed! We have our first second trimester appointment next week where we will finally meet with one of the doctors in the practice. We are trying to meet with a few of them since the chances of my doctor delivering isn't very high.

@NB817 My friends are big fans of the sprinkle. We've hosted a few of them for our friends that were pregnant with baby #2. Their sprinkles were small, probably about 10 or so of us. Each time someone new hosted, we'd have brunch (everyone brought a little something) and then opened gifts which were mainly diapers, wipes and a couple of outfits for the new little one. I'd never heard of a sprinkle until our first friend was pregnant again. I think they are cute and a good excuse to hang out with a small group of friends

  • @KidShrink I like your idea of welcome baby BBQ. That sounds ideal for your situation.
I had 3, yes three, showers when I was pregnant with DD so no this would not be like that at all. This would be 10-15 friends either at my house or the friend who wants to throw it. I thought it was weird to do but then she said to me "every baby should be celebrated no matter which number it is" and I can't argue with that especially with all we went through to get him.

  • @mechelita44 welcome to the 2nd tri! So glad you're here!

What My sprinkle would probably be sounds a lot like the one you are describing. We were team green with DD so we have all the big things still in neutral colors so I imagine friends would just bring boy outfits for him??

@KidShrink & @ NB817 Thanks ladies!! I was so happy to have passed. Good luck on yours when you take it.

@NB817 You are more than welcome to take over when I graduate. Believe it or not, I've been leader here for my entire 2nd tri!! It's not too bad. I just forget to do the check-in on Mondays sometimes.

  • @NB817 : wow that's a lot of showers! But I guess if each family does it separately plus one with friends, it totally makes sense! I say if your friend wants to do it for you, then why not?! I read on my BMB about a girl who had given away all her baby stuff because they thought they were done, and then less than two years later decided to have another child and was wondering whether it'd be appropriate for her to organize a shower. That'd be a huge no-no for me (that's just begging for presents), but in your case, hell yes! And our little miracles certainly deserve to be celebrated!

Hi all! Glad to see some fun going on and tons of kicks. :) had my first of two anatomy scans yesterday and everything looked normal with our little guy. So so so happy!

  • @KidShrink yes it certainly was a lot of showers! My coworkers did one, the 2nd was for my local friends, the 3rd was family back home. Still overwhelming!
And yeah tsk tsk to that chick on your BMB!

  • Age and location. I'll be 35 when babies are born and for AMA moms in NYC they split the anatomy scan into two 45min high level scans which are 4 wks apart. Then they compare the measurements.
  • @HBMama2B : that's interesting!! I wish I'd have 2 as well. What weeks do they do them at? Seems like many of you in US are getting more US than we do in Canada. I got one at 7 weeks (RE's office), then my NT and anatomy scans (12 and 19 weeks). Then that's it, unless you have complications. We've opted to get a 3D ultrasound in a few weeks, but that's more for fun than anything and paid OOP. Really looking forward to seeing what our little guy is going to look like :)
  • @HBamama2B oh that's awesome! I'm jealous! I'm 36 and in CT but just got the one at 19 weeks.

  • Thanks @NB817 and @krbjoy! We are having 1 little bean and are waiting to find out the gender  I guess that makes us Team Green!

  • They are done at 16-19 and 20-23 wks. It's only recommended for moms over 35 or with other risk factors. So exciting to see baby twice absolutely, but less cool to be in a higher risk category.
  • @HBMama2B : have they explained to you what they're expecting in terms of possible changes from one to the other that's associated with being in this higher risk category? Especially if you've had an NIPT test, I wonder what they'd be looking for that they couldn't see in just one US.
  • @KidShrink primarily growth abnormalities and restrictions that may not be due to chromosomal defects
