Headaches

Anyone else getting headaches? I had one last Friday that came and went then Sunday night I had one (after taking Tylenol) through the entire night and off and on yesterday. And through the entire night last night I had one as well. I'm 12w1d today and I know they say this is when headaches start but I never had them this bad with DD and it was like clockwork at 12 weeks. What's the deal?! I'm pretty tough when it comes to pain and discomfort but the headaches really get me. I hate to take Tylenol constantly as well. I'm drinking tons of water. So, anyone else?

Re: Headaches

  • I've had a ton of bad headaches lately. I also keep forgetting to buy Tylenol, so I haven't been able to reach for that. It sucks. I've been drinking as much water as I can, so I know I'm not dehydrated. Just another fun symptom, I guess.

  • I had a headache that lasted two full days. Tylenol helped a little bit but not much. Just make sure you are staying hydrated and resting as much as you can. Also, a cold washcloth over my eyes helped me quite a bit.

  • So glad to know. Go buy some Tylenol!!! Lol
  • I haven't had any in a while but when I first got pregnant I had them frequently. Tylenol dulled it some but I found an ice pack on my forehead or on my eyes for a little bit helped. Plus extra sleep!

  • I've been having hormonal headaches since week four. 1-2/week, sometimes lasting two consecutive days. They suck. I try to sleep when possible and stay hydrated.
  • I need the cool rag or ice pack! Because they are painful!
  • I had headaches pre-pregnancy, and they are definitely more frequent and worse these days.  I'm 11 weeks today.  Pre-baby, I was managing them with aleve and frequent massages.  Well, definitely missing the aleve because Tylenol just doesn't do as good of a job.

You might try massages--they have been drastically reducing my headaches for the past 5 years since I started getting monthly massages.  I was getting 5 days or so of headaches a week, and pre-pregnancy that was cut down to maybe 2 headaches a week.

I tried acupuncture to help the headaches this morning, so we'll see if that does anything.

    Good luck!!!!

  • Also, where on your head do the headaches start?  If around your sinuses, worse pregnancy allergies might actually be causing it.  If around the base of your head/neck, try changing the angle and way you're sleeping.
  • They are mostly on either side of my head and in my eyes. Not sure what that means, I just need some sort of relief. I cut out diet Cokes when I first found out I am pregnant. But this morning I had one thinking maybe the caffeine would help. It's lightened but still here. I've drank tons of water tried Tylenol, I'm just having a hard time shanking them. It may just be one of those suck it up things. I just never had this issue with my daughter.
  • Man. I understand the headaches. I have been getting them bad usually once or twice a day. I don't think they are from hydration or lack of caffeine because I have tried chugging water, as well as drink a can of coke. Mines are at the very base of the back of my skull and it hurts so bad if I move my head around. Nothing I do helps besides just letting it pass on it's own.

Sometimes ice packs have helped. I also had hubby massage my neck last night.

My doctor said that if I get a migraine, to take a extra strength Tylenol and drink a can of coke.

  • @whitmore1027, that's exactly where my headaches are, and they are just awful.  Try making sure you're not sleeping with a cricked neck... that can really aggravate mine.  The good news is that monthly massages do wonders for my regular base-of-head headaches... you might try a massage.  I'm leary to have chiropractic work done there or too crazy of manipulations for a massage because the neck is so delicate, but tension in your shoulders/upper back/neck can cause awful headaches because of your occipital nerves that run from head through neck and down your back.  Sometimes rubbing bengay on my neck helps the headaches too.

  • @jacmkelley, any chance your vision needs to be checked/glasses updated/contacts updated?  I've read pregnancy can impact your vision, so one of two non-hormonal things I can think of is you're straining your eyes and it's giving you a headache?  Also, your sinuses are there, so if you're stuffy and have a headache, allergies could be aggrevating things?  I've been using those super fun breathe-right nose strips to help with congestion at night, and it helps a little and isn't medicine.

Maybe we're just lucky ladies with hormone headaches, but at least we can help the aggravating factors... atleast theoretically. :)

  • @kwilliams3402 you know what, I have been saying the past month that I feel like my vision has declined. I've never had an issue with vision on the past but the past few weeks I feel like i need more light and that I am struggling with lighting in general with my reading. In addition to, when I am on the computer and cell phone I am noticing my headaches get word or come on. I wonder if my vision has changed and I'm straining my eyes causing the headache. I'm going to make an appt. I think that may be part of the problem. I work on a computer all day scheduling interviews for a large company so I have no break from that really.
  • @jacmkelley, As someone who has needed thick glasses/heavy duty contacts since like second grade, I usually don't wish bad vision on anyone, but if some glasses can cure your headaches, that'd be awesome!
  • @kwilliams3402 No kidding! That would be incredible!
  • I would totally take having to wear my second-grade style huge glasses and adding the braces of high school if it meant getting rid of these headaches...
  • I have been suffering from headaches for days on end. What I have found that helps (because Tylenol won't touch them):
Peppermint oil (on temples and back of neck)
Ice packs (I purchased one that goes over my eyes and it is amazing)
    Baths with eucalyptus Epsom salt

I ordered some headache shower bombs on etsy but the shop up and closed so I need to find another place.

I hope you start feeling better soon!
  • Y'all are all so awesome!!! So many ideas to move forward with! I called my doctor but I kind of refuse to keep taking Tylenol every 4 hours especially when it's not even fixing it!
  • You mentioned you stopped drinking your diet coke in the mornings... could it be caffeine withdrawal headaches? If so, the only way to get rid of them is with...surprise... caffeine. Tylenol wont even touch it. Caffeine is fine during pregnancy as long as your staying under 200 mg.
  • @PinkLady2015 I stopped drinking them at 4 weeks when we found out. I'll have a drink of one here and there. But nothing like I was drinking them. Ive had them since I posted this and the caffeine will help but doesn't knock it out.
  • I have migraines before being pregnant and the only thing that helps pre pregnancy is advised at onset. I have not been getting them and last Monday it came on and I waited until it was really bad and finally took extra strength Tylenol. It took the edge off but still had a dull pain. Then I woke up and it was still there. It has now been a week and I've had a headache every single day. I'm so over it. I try tiger balm on my temples which does help for a while and I found this cooling pack at walgreens for migraine it last 8 hrs and it really works but then the next day it's back. I'm really hoping I get a break soon.
  • They started for me at almost exactly 12 weeks. I takes to my doc about it and got a prescription for furiocet (spelling?). I haven't taken any yet, but I have them if I can't shake an unbearable headache with water and Tylenol. I also have an appt for a massage tomorrow, sok hoping that helps for a while too.
  • Headaches have now hit here. Like you ladies said on the dot, 12 weeks. Anyone find the magic cure yet? Hot baths, tylenol, caffeine only dull the pain.

  • I also have been getting some headaches. Not migraine headaches but enough that it's irritating! I like to use DoTerra Essential Oil 'Tension Blend' on my temples and neck. Smells good and seems to ease some of the tension. I will also take Tylenol as needed.

  • Mine seem to be at least in part sinus headaches, so sudafed + Tylenol seem to do the job.
  • Joining the club!  I have had one everyday for at least a week.  I wake with them, go to bed with them, and they continue even with around the clock tylenol.  I am trying to up my water and see if that does anything...they suck!
  • It was so bizarre. like clockwork. Right at 12 weeks the headaches started.
  • Relaxing in a dark room (if you dont have other kids running around) cold cloth over the eyes. Try an ice pack on the back of the neck. (Thats my fav. My headaches are located behind my eyes and in my temples) Tylenol doesnt take it away for me but does take the edge off. I dont like to take it constantly either but i swear if i take it every 6 hrs for a day it goes away. Otherwise i have it for 2 or 3 days.
  • Ugh. In the same boat, but since week 6. Tylenol, Dr. Pepper and darkness help, but don't make it go away. It's extremely frustrating.
  • Learned something new this week. I got a massage on Tuesday, and of course had a headache. But as she was massaging my head and face, she squeezed my ears in what I assume is a pressure point, and I felt immediate relief! I'm going to have to research it more and see if I can do it myself

A coworker of mine just had her tragus pierced on both her ears - apparently there is a pressure point there that can be used to alleviate headaches.  I'm not sure I'm up to the piercing, but I will try to squeeze those pressure points and see if it works next time!
