Opinions on Vanessa

Just found out that we're having a girl and the name hunt has officially begun!  We both like the name Vanessa.  Vanessa Rose has a nice ring to it.  What does everyone think about this one?

I knew a really really b*tchy girl in high school named Vanessa, so that one is off the table for me, but I think the name itself is pretty.

I like Vanessa. Rose is such a filler MN for me. Outside of family significance, I think you can do better.

I like it. It's an older / dated name but still very nice. Go with it

So is it definitely a dated name?  A nameberry blog claimed that it's getting some attention on their site in 2015.
 What are the odds that it'll resurface within the next decade?

You can't just drop the first letter of a legit name and call it a day. "Kimberly is an 80s name, what about Imberly? Ictoria? Ennifer?"

Just don't.

It's hard to say. It has been on a downturn since peaking at 7,563 girls in 1985, but it's still within the top 200 and in 2014, 1,913 girls were given that name. This isn’t a name that came out of nowhere or dropped super fast, like Ashley or Tracy.

I like it! I grew up in the 80's and didn't know a single one then. I rarely hear it now so it's a refreshing change from all the currently trending names.

I guess I'm confused. Everyone suggests trying to stay away from the "top" names but when one that is not trending is suggested, it's called "dated". Isn't that what makes it unique without being weird?

OP Vanessa is a great name. It's pretty. Feminine. Recognizable.

Dipping into a name that was more popular 20 years ago is a way to stand out in the crowd without throwing a bunch of letters together and making up your own name.
