2nd Trimester

Itchy nipples??

I'm 22 weeks along and my nipples are starting to itch. Alot. My breasts are growing again, after having given me an initial growth and then calming down for many weeks. Could the nipple itching be from growth or what? I'm mentioning it at my next appointment, but any input would be helpful until then.
I should note that there's no discharge and other than getting darker there's no other changes in them

Re: Itchy nipples??

  • AFAIK it's fairly common and can be caused by skin stretching. I find that moisturizing helps when I have this issue. I use Bio Oil which seems to help! You can still check with doctor to be sure!

Since BFP I've had dry and sometimes itchy or pained nipples. Get a nipple ointment - lansinoh or Medela. I also have some a more natural brand that has been great...it comes in a jar not a tube. Super helpful I know. But these things will help and are meant to go there.

Eta: the jar one is mother love brand. Not sure if that still exists, I've had it awhile.

  • My nipples itch like no other. I find putting lotion on them after I shower in the morning and then again before bed helps a little. But man it's awful when the itch hits in public and you can't do anything about it!
  • Not itchy nipples, necessarily, more like the actual breast tissue randomly itches, I even get weird 'burning' sensations that feel deep in the tissue. It blows.
  • Itchy nipples and breasts here. I got this great cream called "udder cream". Its thick but it does the trick for moisturizing all over. I use it on my face too. Ive been it hy and suffering with dry skin cuz of the winter and the hormones combined. Always open to new product suggestions

  • I had super itchy nipples that became painful when I got cold earlier in pregnancy. I used Palmer's cocoa butter cream on them at least once a day. Moisturizing a lot helps!
  • Started to use Palmers belly butter on them and it's helped a ton. I had been completely leaving them out of my moisturizing routine until now and it's made a world of difference including the girls.
  • Itchy nipples are the WORST. I started having that at about 11-12weeks and MAN. I would scratch then it would be painful from the scratching! Sooo not fun. LOTS of lotion is my friend. Haha

  • My stomach and boobs the last few days are driving me insane with itchiness! I'm drinking lots of fluids and put on Burt's Bees belly butter. I don't know what to do!

Any recommendations? My skin isn't dry at all, but it's keeping me up at night.
  • Switch to another moisturizer. I'm seriously in love with Palmers belly butter now that I've tried it. I'm not itchy as long as I use it daily. I rinse with cold water before getting out of the shower as well. Also, I keep almond oil in a pump bottle in the shower and use that all over before I towel dry, then I go over the extra needy areas, like my belly and boobs, with the belly butter
  • I had some itching as well - started using Burt's Bees belly butter and it fixed it!
