Good Morning ladies,
I had my 20 week appointment yesterday, it went mostly well baby is overall healthy. However during the ultrasound the tech could not get a good measurement of babygirls left hand. Right one we saw clear as day with all 5 little fingers. She was however very active during the appointment. My doctor is having me do a follow up with a specialist though to check on things. Anyone else experience this?
I'm a worrier to begin with so I definitely am just letting my mind get away from me. My SO and I talked though and obviously regardless on what the specialist said as long as she makes it here healthy is our main concern.
Re: 20 week appointment
Here's the condensed version...Dr saw two soft markers for downs and suggested additional genetic testing. Did the NIPT test. Had the head Dr of the practice call and apologize saying the test wasn't necessary and he thought baby was healthy.
2 and a half weeks later head Dr calls with the results saying negative for downs, negative for trisomy 18, and inconclusive for trisomy 13. I had to wait until Monday (when i turned 24 weeks) and he calls saying it was a positive for trisomy 13 but that the genetic specialist and him believe it to be a false positive and that I have abnormal placenta cells. Follow up ultrasound at 28 weeks to check growth.
Holy moly! It seems to me that there are so many what ifs in pregnancy and my advice is to just adopt the mindset that everything is ok until it isn't. I know how stressful it can be so please PM me if you want to talk.
I TOTALLY agree with that mindset. Everything is ok until it isn't. Borrowing worry isn't going to make bad things happen and isn't going to fix anything that is wrong if it is. We had a soft marker for trisomy 18, but were told everything else looked good. Next day got a call that my blood work indicated spina bifida, but repeat scan said all was good. Now I'm measuring 5 weeks ahead by fundal height, which could be caused by a million different things so we are waiting to see how it looks in a month, then possibly more ultrasounding.
I agree with taking every kick as a reassurance, and take one day at a time. Today my baby is fine.
