Children after c section

Hello all. I just had my first child in December, and she was born by emergency cesarean after I labored for 18 hours, and pushed for nearly an hour. It was terrifying, and never how I imagined she would be born. For some reason, I just never thought that I would need a c section. Now that I have had a c section, there are a lot of things that I never considered that go along with the territory, but the thing that is bothering me the most is that DH and I always planned on having several children, we wanted at least four, maybe up to six. I'm curious as to how having my first child by c section will affect the number of children we are able to have now. I'm wondering if anyone else has had their first child by cesarean, and gone on to have at least three more children, either by VBAC or by repeat sections?

Every pregnancy and delivery are different. As long as you space out your pregnancies appropriately, giving your body time to heal, there is nothing to stop you from trying a VBAC or having multiple c-section.

I've had 3, and could have had more but chose to have a tubal ligation.

I have had four c sections. Last one took the longest, but a year out I haven't had any problems.

I agree, everyone is different. I would suggest talking to your OB.

I ended up having a c-section after more than 24 hours of labor and 2 hours of pushing (she just wasn't coming out!).  My OB assured me that having the c-section doesn't mean I'm limited by how many children I can have.  Like others have said, she told me it's just not recommended to deliver another baby less than 18 months later since the scar usually needs more time to heal.

When/if the time comes, I want to find a hospital that does 'gentle c-sections' so I can have immediate skin to skin instead of having to wait 30+ minutes to hold my own baby.

My OB has told me that with each each C-section the doctor should give you advice on whether or not they think another one is a good idea by the way your uterus looks and how the surgery and healing goes. According to him it's a case-by-case, pregnancy by pregnancy decision that is best made by the doctor that does your surgery. At my post op appointment he told me that the doctor that did my surgery had written notes that said he approved of me having one more at least. From what I understand if you do a vBAC you probably will have a better chance of having multiple kids that way. If you do multiple C-sections they may at some point tell you they don't advise that you have anymore. My doctor said his limit is generally four max and two if things don't seem to heal well. Of course it's up to the patient but that is the max he advises.

I have had 3 and I am planning a 4th csection.  Like a previous person said my dr gave me the green light after assessing how the surgery went each time.

I'm about to have my 5th c/s. My first one was an emergency one. I had hoped for a VBAC with my second but didn't happen and the rest were scheduled. They have had me seeing a Fetal specialist this time around to get frequent sonos because of scar tissue and my age. My OB isn't worried but the specialist wants me to deliver a little early.
