?-HCG vs Lupron

I am scheduled to take HCG as my trigger; however they are asking that I get Lupron to have on hand in case they need to use that instead. Has anyone switched? what is typically the reason for it?

I haven't started my IVF cycle yet, so I haven't had to switch. My RE did mention that I would likely trigger with Lupron instead of HCG because I am at risk of hyperstimulation. My guess would be that they want you to have the Lupron in case you're getting too stimulated at the end, or if your estrogen gets too high.

There is a lot less chance of OHSS with Lurpon and if it does happen RE says it'll be mild. It doesn't work through the ovaries like HCG does. It also leaves your system faster and doesn't give you a positive test. I agree with pp that it's likely in case you get close to OHSS. I've also heard of ppl triggering with Lupron and having HCG as a backup if th cycle gets downgraded to an IUI.

Like @Cmartin6706 said, the Lupron helps to tamper OHSS. I triggered with Lupron because of my PCOS. The day before my retrival though I did an hCG booster. I did get OHSS, but it was very mild. It would have been much worse with an hCG trigger. We also did a freeze all for the same reason.

takethelongway it looks like I'll be switching to lupron - is that IM or subcutaneous?

@MelD17011 It's subcutaneous.. similar to most of the other ivf/iui injections.
