I know this won't be an UO but it isn't Wednesday and there's no wtf thread today. But...WTF is going on on the board lately? It's like ALLLL the crazy came out for the new year! I agree about all the intro posts. I understand we encourage people to introduce themselves (as is customary for this board) but I feel like there's so many lately. I'm just not interested in reading so many! My real unpopular opinion today is... I LOVE WINTER TIME! (Even when I lived in Chicago!) I love summer time too but I also genuinely and strangely love cold weather!
YES! I love winter, everyone always thinks I am soo strange. There are soo many good things about it. For example Snow is soo pretty, cuddly is better (I and my DH hate cuddly when it is hot out), you can always put on more cloths when it is cold, but you can only take off so many cloths when it is hot, and of course skiing!

@sarah0985 - was there even a WTF Wednesday thread yesterday? I didn't see it. I didnt see a Twatwaffle Tuesday post either.

Also as someone living in Chicago, you can have the winter. This cold is brutal.

  • @Megzb510 yes! Why does it have to be special? My name was a bit different growing up and it was hell. They spell it and say it wrong constantly. It's not even hard! I would like to see a trend of normal names.. Or at least normal spellings. It's just too much.
  • @murray1030 My favorite Facebook drama to lurk is the garage sale pages! I can't help it. I just love watching people get all worked up over a $5 VHS or overpriced sofa. Not to mention the bidding wars, breaking of rules, etc. Thats some good stuff, right there.

Um...my UO is...oh! I don't like sweets. Well, I love fruit, but not candies, cakes, cookies, etc. A bite of a candy bar is enough to get me through a few months.

  • My UOs:  I can't stand Taylor Swift, Will Ferrell or Luke Bryan (and I love country).  Eeek, don't hate me.
  • @murray1030 - I'm with you on the FB drama. So. Much. Fun. when I'm not involved. I have a few train wreck FB friends that I haven't talked to in years, but I keep them around for the entertainment.

@PeggyOlsonFTW - Definitely agree that TTCAL needs more snark. Sometimes I'm hesitant to get snarky there, because I'm not sure what someone may or may not be going through. However, some posts are blatantly drive-bys from people who clearly haven't even had a loss/don't even want to be pg.

My UO - If I had won the PowerBall, I don't think I would quit my job.  I'd maybe try to cut back to part-time, but not quit completely.

I watched the "My diet is better than yours" show which I guess really is a FFC but my UO is I cannot stand it when people say they are doing normal good for you things "for my children."  Like if you didn't have kids you would be cool with morbidly obese and kids are the only reason to care about your health!?  Don't get me wrong I know there are things people are do for their kids and this is great but so many things I hear and think no that was for you but the kids may benefit too.  The reality show competitions are the ones that really drive me nuts, no I don't think your four year old is going to be better for you trying to win a cooking competition.

I would really enjoy for The Bump to revert back to the way it used to be a year or so ago because some people need a proper good flaming. It's rainbows and kittens compared to how it used to be.

Yes! My previous BMB was harsh sometimes, usually warranted. Lots of puppies and rainbows now. I'm all for support and kindness when appropriate - but I fully support snark and flaming when warranted without people getting all butthurt and reporting.
    ETA - spelling is hard
  • My UO... I may be the only person who is not yet pregnant and have never been pregnant, but I love reading birth stories! What drives me UP THE WALL is when people say their baby "landed earth-side", or welcome to planet earth etc. You do realize your womb is on this planet right? Your baby has never been anywhere BUT earth-side. Just because you can't see your in utero baby, doesn't mean they don't exist!

    wait... What?
I'm sure it's just a poor use of words, poor phrasing, but I can't figure out what that is supposed to mean either!

I think it's like hippy stuff, as in, my child was growing in the plush womb of the spirit-realm, until they passed through the mystical portal that is my vagina, came down from heaven, and landed "earth-side".  On the Earth-side of the realms as opposed to celestial.

  • I feel like I agree with so much of this! Haha. I was thinking the other day that we need one post to put all the intros in or something. I post welcome in any of the ones that are normal. I think including your TTC history makes sense, but If it's more than a paragraph with your entire life story I just don't read it and move on.

Facebook drama is awesome when you aren't involved lol. It's my favorite when the OP posts something like "this discussion is over" but like it isn't and they have no way of stopping people from posting so they just get super mad and whiny. The best.

I have two today and they are similar.

I feel like I'm the only person in the south who doesn't give a shit about blue bell coming back into stores. It tastes just like any other ice cream and it's expensive. And Ben and Jerry has way better flavored.

Second is that I don't care about all those old shows getting new seasons on Netflix. Gilmore girls and full house are the two off the top of my head.

My UO is I don't enjoy TTGP grads posting here at all. I get that they lurk and get excited about BFPs and stuff, but I wish they'd do so quietly. It stings to see people from my old BMB, even though they were all great, because I'm here and they're there. Their presence is a trigger. When I was KU, I definitely lurked here but I avoided responding because I was not TTGP. I get that this may be irrationally bitchy, but one of the comforting things about this board is that I generally don't stumble upon pregnant people. So when I do I'm like

ETA the grad posts are fine.... I'm referring to when grads post in random threads and TWW and such.

Yes! I might dislike this more than drive-bys. There was someone recently where I just wanted to post: "Yay! You got your bfp! You're winning! Now please, for the love of cheese and crackers, go back to your bmb."
It just makes no sense. If they're regulars they know how much it hurts.

  • @strickland8052 Yeah, I definitely get the hesitation and the urge to be a little nicer to everyone there because of their situation, but the people who ask if they're pregnant, or if they could be ovulating or telling us about their symptoms, etc. etc. drive me a little nutty. There's wayyyyy too much symptom spotting and speshul snowflake-ness over there.

And did you see the person who posted "This is unnecessary" or something to that effect in the "If you are looking for Google" announcement at the top?

So Accountability and Data. I am sick of it... I will not vote for any politician that says teachers need to be held accountable and that we need more data because what it really means is that we have endless tests.... The kids are tested to death right now, I have no time to teach. I am sick of it.... but of course if they do not do well on the tests we get fired, never mind that the kids have no reason to care about the tests because it does not effect their grades.  I have had so many kids tell me they do not try/care because it does not effect them, errg...

I am a bit angry right now about it because we have all the mid year tests right now to make sure we are on the right track for the end of the year tests.....
    As a teacher...
    Yes! Both of these!

  • @lilylover27 - So much yes to the trendy diet thing! One of my friends started a "saltwater diet" yesterday and as she was telling me about it last night, it was all I could do to keep from rolling my eyes to her face. You literally guzzle a liter of salt water first thing in the morning, which causes you to poo uncontrollably. And then you drink one of those heinous concoctions of honey, cayenne pepper, and whatnot for the rest of the day. She described it with such a sense of pride- and all I could think was "you're a freaking moron." Weight loss is so simple. BURN MORE CALORIES THAN YOU CONSUME. That's literally all there is to it. No need to induce diarrhea every morning. Ridiculous.

@jhems776 - I'm watching that show, too. The premise is based off of "fad diets," which, obviously^, I hate. But beyond that, I think the "doing it for the kids" line is part of what gets them on the show... everyone loves a good sob story!  :/

my guess is that OP meant "I may be the only [non-pregnant/ never-been-pregnant] lady *who* enjoys reading birth stories."

That's exactly what I meant! Sorry... Words are hard. I have never had a baby. I like reading birth stories.
  • @mchrisgarcia I never buy anything from those yard sale sites but I look at them constantly just for this reason! It is purely and perfectly amazing! I followed one with literally hundreds of comments that all started when a woman said she was looking for a tank for her son's pet turtle and a man threatened to report her to the police because having turtles as pets is illegal....I shit you not.

@murray1030 I will admit to keeping some people as friends just because they create the crazy. One girl constantly is posting holier than thou stuff about religion, money management, and everything about parenting from having rear facing car seats until the age of 5 to refusing to claiming that posting pictures of your child is akin to child abuse. Things get heated!

My UO is pretty lame, but I think canned/packaged tuna fish is absolutely disgusting. It doesn't look, smell or taste appealing in any way and I can't stand when people eat it around me because it smells like cat food and lingers forever.
