Intro - Waiting for AF after natural MC & pregnancy symptoms but negative tests

New here! I had a natural miscarriage December 14th (5 weeks & 2 days along) where I bled for about 3-4 days. My blood tests all went back to normal & my midwife said I could start trying the next time I ovulated. I got a peak positive OPK exactly 2 weeks after my miscarriage (had sex those 2 days) and then felt crampy about 5 days later, took a OPK, and it came back peak positive again (had sex that 1 day). Since then I've been having very tender breasts/nipples, fertile looking CM, VERY random low cramping, & a teeny tiny spot of red blood when I wiped today (negative pregnancy test this AM). For all my life I've been spot on with getting AF on day 28 but I obviously know that after a MC my body is trying to regulate so it could be 4-6 weeks… I am really curious of why I have so much fertile looking CM as I'm 30 days past my MC. I'm going to wait another week until I go visit my midwife but wanted to see if anyone has had similar experience after miscarriage. Thank you for your help!

  • I'm sorry for your loss. :(

As far as what's going on with your CM: it's possible your body is still trying to ovulate.  Or it's possible that for whatever reason you're just getting EWCM and you already ovulated. It's really hard to say if you're not temping to confirm ovulation.

I know before my MC I had what I thought was a lot of EWCM (about 4 days on the days leading up to O and O day). My first "cycle" after my MC I had 9 days of fertile CM and this cycle (my first full real cycle, or 2nd  O and AF, however you want to look at it) I had 12 days of fertile CM. Both of these cycles I had positive OPKs a good 7 days or so before I finally O'd (confirmed by temps). So I'd say it's definitely possible to have more fertile CM while your body tries to make O happen.

Also, for what it's worth, I did a lot of reading about what to expect after my MC and it appeared to be pretty common to have pregnancy symptoms with your first AF. I tried my best to prepare myself for that and if we're being honest, I still let myself get my hopes up way more than I should have by all the pregnancy symptoms around O. I tried really hard not to symptom spot but that TWW and AF was just wildly different than my normal PMS/AF before my MC. So, I'd say to try not to read too much in to any pregnancy symptoms you may be having. And just know that a different set of PMS/AF symptoms the first month or two is pretty common and normal.

    Wishing you all the best.

First off, thank you for your kind words. I am also so sorry for your loss. :(

It's comforting to know that what I'm experiencing is pretty common for most women after MC. I had my mind set that everything would go back to normal fairly quick but it seems to be lingering… I just want this all behind me so I can start over. I am definitely going to try temping this next round so I know exactly what's going on with my body.

Thank you, again! Wishing you all the best!
