Pregnant after 35

YIKES!

I'm shocked and excited and somewhat frightened to announce that I had my ultrasound today and I'm having twins!!  I know we put two embryos in, but I didn't really think both would take at my age and after trying for a year and half - and really assuming we had egg/embryo quality issues.  I assumed the "perfect" embie had implanted.  Holy moly.  My hubby and I will at random times blurt out things like - "Crap, we need another crib!"  "Dang, I need a new car!"  I think we need to digest this and then sit down and figure out the logistics.  Most of all, we really should figure out some more names!!  That'll probably be the toughest part for us!!

3/2014 - TTC #2, return to RE 7/2014
12/2015: IVF #1 transferred two great looking embryos - BFP!

Re: YIKES!

  • Yes! Congratulations! I was hoping that's what this "yikes!" Was about! I'm not-so-secretly hoping we are having twins. But the chances of that actually being the case are slim.

Anyway! Congratulations! This is awesome news.
  • Thanks @sporty1216!  I will pray for double blessings for you too!  Sometimes being a little older is all it takes to get multiples.  Ovaries tend to start spitting out all their remaining eggs.  In our NICU, we see a lot of "natural" multiples in ladies over 35.  :)

  • Wow! Congratulations! I understand your slight panic! Twins is one of my secret fears, only because some small part of me thinks it could happen to us (there is no logical reason I think this) and I can't quite imagine how it would all work. But you rise to the occasion as is needed. Those babies are so blessed to have you and each other! How fun they get to keep each other company in there for 9months!
  • Omg congrats. Take it step by step. There's also a twins group on the bump and Facebook. They should help.

  • Congratulations...that's such exciting news! I was on 150mg of Clomid the cycle that I became pregnant and even though the increased risk of twins is not that much, my HCG and progesterone has been much higher than any of my other pregnancies so I sometimes play the "what if" game. I'll find out in two weeks at my u/s. What a fun time for you! Congrats!
  • Thanks everyone.  It's sinking in a little today.  My HCG levels actually WEREN'T that high @Ssoccerball, which is one reason I'm kind of shocked, I think! :)

  • My twin cousins just started college and they are the best girls ever -- I honestly think it's because they've always had each other and never felt like they needed to cave to peer pressure. We are really close and they tell me the things they see their classmates doing but say "we just do our own thing." Quiet confidence that comes from having a BFF who won't give in either... Lots to look forward to with twins! Twin boys are a hoot, too - never a dull moment and never a lack of playmates! Congratulations!!!
  • Congratulations, it's so amazing the things we can find out so early now. I have two friends who are my age who are separately part of sets of twins. Their parents found out they were having two at the delivery.. Without USs I guess that was common. I've seen a picture of one of their dads holding his twins on the day they were born and his face is totally dear in the headlights.
