Dresses & Crawling

I was about to buy baby girl a bunch of dresses for the summer and then it occurred to me, dresses might hinder crawling?? I've only had boys, so I'm not sure.  What do you think?

Re: Dresses & Crawling

  • I've never thought about it!!! I have a girl too :) my grandma did just buy her these legging things though that kind of have knee pads in them for crawling! They are sooo cute, but I can't remember what they are called! I'll look when I get home!

As a general rule, Don't buy dresses in 9-12 mos sizes. They do get in the way of crawling. Crawling is a relatively short period of time though, it's only a few months before walking starts once they crawl.
  • It does, but you can always tuck them into their bloomers if they are struggling.

  • I used short dresses on DD1 that skimmed the diaper (cloth diapers are so cute I liked them to peek out). They didn't bother her. She was petite, so she was wearing 3-6m when she started crawling (7mo) so that made them even shorter. Long dresses definitely would be in the way.

  • We would always just tuck them into the bloomers if they got in the way. My girls definitely wore dresses in the summer or rompers dresses like pp showed.

  • Also, some babies don't crawl or don't crawl for long. Ds only army crawled then went straight to cruising lol I think he may have crawled on all 4s for like a week?

We didn't do pretty much any dresses for DD1 for the crawling stage.  The one exception was her Christmas dress and she got so frustrated when she tried to get around.  But like others said, the crawling stage doesn't last too long.  (Then you get the "I don't want to wear any dresses" stage, and after that the "I only want to wear dresses" stage...)
