Re: Tummy time's a bust =(

  • My son HATES tummy time. He is 5 months and is not interested in crawling, rolling, or any of it. Hopefully it gets better, I feel you.

  • LO used to hate it, he would scream and fuss when we did tummy time but after consistently doing it, he was ok. even if you get 5 minutes in a few times a day then that is good. My son is 5 months old and can flip both ways which makes tummy time easier for him.
  • I know this won't work for everyone but it worked for us. I did little short bursts of tummy time. then when little one was around 4 months old I fed him, burped him, made sure he was in a good mood. then I put him on tummy time and he immediately started fussing and crying. I let him cry and didn't pick him up or roll him over until he calmed down. I did sit there with him and rub his back and talked to him though. Ever since we have never had a problem with tummy time. he actually even really likes it now.
  • My boy lasts about 5 minutes before he gets frustrated. He was rolling belly to back consistently at 4 months, but hasn't much in the last few weeks (he was 5 months on the 4th). He's so close to rolling back to belly but just can't get it yet. I was getting worried he was behind but realized I was driving myself nuts comparing to others!

My LO basically only does tummy time on my chest. It makes her happier. It's obviously working too because she can roll both ways AND sit unassisted for a good while before she gets tired. Maybe try that?

Edit- she will be 5mo next week

  • We were having the same struggle and tummy time isn't limited to a play mat, like others have said, it can be done on your chest, lap, mat, crib, or even in the football hold face down. now that LO has a pretty strong core, we aren't as worried about it. he can roll both ways and did it on his own. don't worry about comparing, each baby is different.
  • Thanks guys! She is a lil stinker lol she can roll to her back now so even when I put her on her tummy she just rolls back over lol
