Thoughts on the name Maya?

My husband mentioned the other day that he really likes the name Maya. He hardly ever offers up names, so I'm really considering it. We like the sound of Maya Kate.

What is your take on the name? At this point for a girl it's between Maya, Emma, Christine and Christa. They seem to be the only names at least one of us isn't strongly against.

  • I love it. It's my favorite of your list.

  • Maya is pretty but NMS. I do really like Emma, albeit popular.

  • It's a nice name, but my favorite from your list is Christine.
  • I like it, but I prefer Christine, too.
  • I love Maya, but it is one of those names that I'm not sure ages well. Although I guess there is Maya Angelou, but other than that, it just seems like a kid name to me. I like Christine a lot too and it gets bonus points since it's not very popular anymore.
  • I really like Maya. Maya Christine is a pretty name!
  • Love Maya. Maya Rudolph is another grown up Maya-I think it can age well :)

I was just about to mention Maya Rudolph as another grown up Maya also. :) Maya Angelou and her were the two Mayas I thought of first.

I definitely think it can age well and I also prefer it compared to the others on your list. Maya is a nice name.

  • I love Maya.  I also like Christine, and you could consider Christina if you like both Christine and Christa.  I like Emma but it's too popular for my taste.
  • I think Maya Kate is lovely. I don't think it sounds juvenile at all. Maya Katherine would be pretty too.
  • Love Maya! It's on our list if this next baby is a girl. I think I like it more than my DH does though. It's definitely my favorite from your list.
  • Maya is great!
  • Maya is my favorite on your list. I really like it. I know an adult Maya and I have never once thought of her name as a child's name or that it didn't age well. Go for it!

I like Maya a lot. I'm not sure how popular it is lately...up there but not Ava or Emma up there! I have a niece named Maya, a friend's daughter is named Maya and an old work friend is named Maya...so I've known a few. it's my favourite of the names you listed. Apparently some people will still say MAY-ah so be prepared (maybe this is only in England), though I have no idea why they would mispronounce it. It's not it's some obscure name never heard of before!
