2nd Trimester

Should I be worried...

I'm 19 weeks 1 day and I've felt the baby move so much at times and other times like today haven't felt him move should I see a doctor or is this normal until around 23 weeks?

Re: Should I be worried...

  • They will tell you that 19 weeks is much too early to track fetal movements. They told me to pay attention to frequency of movement when I reach 28 weeks. I know it can be scary when you don't feel them move for a long period of time, but at this point in your pregnancy it is very normal.

  • I have been wondering the same thing. I will have a day where I feel a lot of movement, and then a very quiet day. It is unsettling. I know the baby is still tiny at this point and it's easy to miss movements so I try not to get too worried!

  • 19 weeks may be a little early to be putting much stake in changes in movement but if you're concerned, a call to your doctor isn't necessarily unwarranted.  At the very least it could put your mind at ease.
  • at 19 weeks, baby still has quite a bit of room in there. he/she could have very well turned to a position where you're just not feeling it as much. my LO did this to me at 21 weeks. i didn't feel him move for 2 days. rushed to urgent care, & they found the heartbeat almost right away.

if you're very concerned, defjnitely call your doctor or go get checked.
  • Yea 19 weeks is too early to be freaking out too much about not feeling movement. As pp said, baby is still small enough to have room to move. Or in my case if he moved to the side my (anterior) placenta is on I didn't feel anything on that side till I was probably 26-27 weeks because of the extra padding. That being said, once you hit third tri there's times where you won't feel baby move hardly at all because there's so little room for movement, which I feel is more worrisome than during second tri. But, if you truly are worried then call your dr, they may help ease your mind more than internet strangers :)
