Hey ladies! I am new to actually struggling with the "infertility" aspect of everything, as my hubby and I just got serious about TTC a few months ago. I have been diagnosed with PCOS since I was 18 (I am now 24). I don't have periods on my own at all, however, I will get them while taking birth control. I haven't had a natural period in about 7 years, and I haven't had a BC period in at least a full year. I never have any spotting or any sign of AF, and haven't for at least the last year.
Anyway, a couple of months ago, I started 500 mg of Metformin once per day. About a week ago, my doctor upped me to 1000 mg per day. She also started me on a round of Prometrium (200 mg of progesterone) for 10 days and said that I should start my cycle within a week of finishing the pills. Today was my ninth pill, and I had some heavy spotting/start of AF this evening. I was really surprised because I wasn't expecting anything until after I finished the pills. My understanding was that taking the pills and having the withdrawal from them was what causes a period.
I guess my question is....do you think that this came from taking the progesterone? Or do you think that this could be that Metformin is working and caused me to have a cycle? I will call my doctor tomorrow and see, but of course I'm anxious and was just wondering if anyone had any experience with this type of thing.
Thanks!!!!!
Re: Bleeding While Taking Progesterone...from the pills or something else?
I can't really reply on your message, as I always have had my period even though I have PCOS, but just wanted to let you know that I've read your post and am keeping my FX crossed that the medicine is doing its job.
Keep us posted. x
