Bleeding at 14 weeks

Good morning. Until now I've just been a lurker, but now I have a situation. I am 14 weeks today and when I went to the bathroom this morning there was some red blood in my underwear and a few drops in the toilet and a smear on the toilet paper. I called and spoke with the on call doctor who told me to go directly to bed and do nothing for the rest of the day and to call if it gets worse. I've consulted Dr Google (ugh) and saw a lot of posts from people who had similar experiences and went on to have healthy babies. I guess I'm just hoping to hear more stories like that.

Re: Bleeding at 14 weeks

  • When is your next o.b. appt? I would definitely call your doctor again if the bleeding increases and/or if you start cramping. I'm sorry I can't advise more. Good luck, keep us updated.

  • Have you had sex recently sorry if that's tmi I know that can cause some spotting. I think if you search spotting I believe there was another person who had later spotting as well and they may be able to give you some advice as well. Not able to send links on my app.

But I'm with @Nerdchild I'd call your OB or nurse line if it continues. I know my nurse put me on pelvic rest when I was spotting. Hoping it clears up soon it can be scary.

  • I bled on and of my whole last pregnancy. Gave birth to a healthy 8 pound girl.
Pelvic rest and fluids :) light cramping can be normal. As long as you are not filling up a pad and hour with blood you are fine. Of course I am not a Dr. If you feel you need to be seen go to your Dr. :)
  • I agree with PPs. I am so sorry you're dealing with this worry. Praying everything is okay. <3
  • I had bleeding off and on with DD throughout the entire 2nd tri, I didn't know until at 20w that I had a low lying placenta. Wasn't a big deal, I had a follow up echocardiogram at 28w and the placenta had moved up, and I had no more issues with bleeding.

Hope you feel better, it can be scary to see that. Best thing is to try to rest, if it continues your doc may suggest no sex for a while.
  • Go to ER. You'll just stress yourself out if you don't. I started bleeding (and clotting) around 13 weeks and went straight to ER. It was a Sunday, and I couldn't wait to go and stay up all night worrying if I had mc. Which I was convinced I had. But I just had a perigestational hemorrhage which caused it but wasn't much cause for concern. But I'm glad I went and knew for sure. I'd rather not stress all day for no reason.
  • Take a look at the SCH thread. Sometimes bleeding happens in pregnancy. I bled for a few weeks (went to the ER, etc). I'm not a doctor but had no idea that bleeding could happen. My bleed was NOT partnered with cramps though. Good luck!
  • I had bleeding as well around 10 weeks. I was extremely worried and stressed. I never went to ER but did call and they said not to worry or come in unless the blood was filling a pad an hour or more.(yikes that would be a lot) At my 12 week appt I talked to the doctor about it and she said sometimes you will have a little blood in your uterus and your cervix will kind of "squeeze" it out. Made sense to me but hopefully it will go away and you won't have to worry. I had a very small amount of bright red blood and the rest was very faint brown. It lasted for about 2.5 days total. Sending good thoughts you way!
  • My OB has me come in to L&D for any bleeding at this point to determine cause if possible and check on baby. Has the bleeding stopped?
  • Great news girls, I saw my dr yesterday and after a thorough ultrasound, she couldn't identify a single problem either with the baby or my pregnancy. She was so sorry but I was thrilled!
    Thanks again for your support!

So glad to read this happy update!
