Tired all the time!

I'm 21 weeks pregnant and I'm always feeling tired. I read that usually you're only really tired during the first trimester but that hasn't changed much for me. 930pm is my new weekend bedtime it seems also. My feet have also started to throb! This is my first pregnancy. Any similar expectant mom's going through the same thing?

Re: Tired all the time!

  • I took two naps today. Along with sleeping in. You're growing a human, it's exhausting work!

Yes, I am tired too.  It gets brutal after the baby is actually here, the loss of sleep thing, I call that the initiation into parenthood.  I have a toddler and am just now semi getting caught up but I don't get to sleep in unless the toddler does on a whim and the toddler doesn't nap.  But little one does sleep through the night wonderfully so I can get a full chunk of sleep at night (in theory if pregnancy insomnia doesn't kick in), at least until May.  But of course it is all worth it - I am very excited about our family of 4.
  • I have some days where I'm exhausted & barely make dinner wen I get home from work and other days where I feel almost not even pregnant. My bedtime is 8-9pm every night of the week, unless heartburn declares otherwise!
  • I'm tired a lot too. I find getting up at a decent time and keeping busy helps...I'm a zombi on the weekend lol
  • I've found that getting three meals a day with 2-3 snacks is essential for me in maintaining higher energy levels. Even so, my endurance isn't as good as it used to be- can only run errands for 3-5 hours straight, not 8-10.

I have to ask...and I don't mean this to be snarky but what errands were you doing for 8-10 hours straight?! I cannot fathom and I am a person who loves go run errands and will find excuses to do so!

  • I agree that eating well can compensate, somewhat, for not sleeping well and/or feeling tired. Especially protein in a meal.  I get so tired after heating carb-heavy foods.  This made me feel even more blah during the 1st tri when I already was nauseous/vomiting.  Nothing beats a great night sleep though!

  • I generally am always more tired/hungry/nauseous/grumpy/all other pregnancy adjectives in the second trimester. I echo the others- you're growing a human, it's not easy on a body. But definitely make sure you're getting enough protein & iron. It can only help.
  • still so incredibly tired, and have had people comment about my looking pale so got a blood test. Iron was down. normal level is above 20, I'm down to 15. Dropped to 12 with my first so will be back on the iron tablets, goodie!

  • I had a boost of energy during the first half of the second trimester, now I'm 21 weeks and back to being tired allllll the time. I could. not. get out of bed this morning. Thankfully I'm allowed to work from home on days like these...
  • Thanks for all the feedback it feels so much better seeing that so many people are going through the same thing! Husband's only understand so much lol
