Postpartum Girdles??

So I've heard of some women using post partum girdles to help the uterus, abs, and other organ systems get back into place faster.... Has anyone done this? Did it actually work for you? If you have done it which brand and style did you use, and how often did you wear it?

Here's a site I'm wondering about that sells some girdles that are supposed to be good ones:

Thoughts? Experiences?
Thanks ladies!! :)

Re: Postpartum Girdles??

  • Hi,

I have done a lot research on the girdles once finding out I was pregnant. It seems that the Bellefit is the most popular. As of now, this is my top choice of purchase. I believe a girdle is definitely needed after delivery in conjunction with nursing to help snap that tummy back!

    Good luck!

  • I used a panty girdle I bought at Cato. I think I had 3. Thanks for reminding me to stock up!

  • I used one after both pregnancies and it definitely helps with that postpartum jello belly feeling. I liked having the extra support. I have heard that if the girdle covers the hips and/or ribs then it can help slim those areas back down, but only if used during the first few weeks when the relaxin is still in your system. Still found that I needed to do targeted core strengthening, because over reliance on the belly binding can actually have the opposite effect and cause the stomach muscles to become lazy. So I say thumbs up, but it's obviously not a cure-all solution to postpartum tummy issues.
  • I recently bought the bff and belly shield. I never used anything with DD and I didn't realize how much jelly belly you get after you deliver. I hated that feeling! I'm hoping this will help shrink the belly a little faster this time.

  • I loved wearing a girdle after I had my daughter a few years ago. I definitely feel that with nursing and wearing it I returned back to my original size quicker, that and just the support it offered my abdomen felt great after baby. I can't remember the exact brand I used but this time I bought a bellafit and plan to wear it for around 3 months or so.
  • Thanks for the feedback ladies! It looks like I need to find myself a belly band then! The hard part is deciding which one to get haha.
  • @kitteh81 Good to know! how long after pregnancy did you need to wait until you could start strengthening your core again?
  • I used both the Belly Bandit for belly and Shrinx for hips. Would 100% recommend one or both. I think I had the Shrinx in two sizes and downsized as things started to shift back to normal. I agree I think they helped things bounce back but it was also nice to have the core support from the Belly Bandit to help when sitting so much.
  • The hospital gave me two girdles after my c-section last time. Not sure what brand, but they were pretty invaluable. It definitely helped my feel like my innards would actually stay in place.
  • @chels1849 I think I started core stability work around 4 weeks postpartum, just focusing on the deep core and transverse abdominal muscles. So things like pelvic tilts, leg scoots, marches etc all while laying down. Here's a good video that shows mostly what I did.

  • Thanks for the video!! And I'll definitely be looking into the belly bandit and the shrinx! :)
  • Questions for moms that have used these--

Belly bandit-- I read they can be bulky under clothes. Did you find you could wear this under normal, not very flowy clothes? Did you wear in public or mostly just at home?

Bellefit-- this one covers your bottom and has a crotch part that unbuckles for using the bathroom. They recommend you start wearing it the day you get home from the hospital. Did you find it was ok to wear even with the discomfort down there? Did you find the crotch opening part was enough to keep things clean and use the bathroom, deal with bleeding, etc?

Thanks in advance to anyone who has used these!
  • I just had a huge abdominal surgery at 33 weeks so was given 2 by the hospital - they advised me to wear them from now until after my delivery to help with the incision and then any "jelly belly" and help me recover - ask your obgyn as they may have some that you are able to take without purchase, the ones that I have seem very large but the fabric is fairly comfortable and the sizes are good ranging from small, medium and large
  • Am I the only one who found anything super tight around my belly uncomfortable postpartum?  I've been fortunate enough not to have c-sections, but any type of girdle I've tried has felt like it was hard to breathe and  squishing my organs back together when they didn't want to be.  Maybe I've been doing it wrong?

  • Is a post partum belly band the same kind of belly band I've been using while pregnant? Pretty much a tightish piece of stretchy material from the bottom of the boobs to the crotch?
