I've had years of experience with Metformin. I take 1500mg of Metformin XR, so it's extended release. It will give you lots of stomach upset (usually gas, bloating and urgent diarrhea). Make sure you take it with food! I choose to take mine at dinner time and it limits the amount of stomach upset for me. It does cause a 'blow out' (sorry if TMI!) if you have something high in carbs or sugar, but not usually until the next morning - first thing. The slower you increase your dose, the better and the easier the symptoms. Good luck!

I agree! I use it twofold as I am a diabetic as well.
I've been on 1500 MG for a few years and haven't experienced any really bad side effects. I do have the diarrhea from time to time, but I could never point it back to the metformin. I also started taking a B12 vitamin because metformin can lower B12 in your body.
Re: Started metformin what can I get expect?
