I'm sure there are good things about an afternoon C-section, but I couldn't do it. I know that I will be super anxious and excited in the 24hrs before surgery, and I tend to eat my anxiety away, so fasting would be impossible during the day for me. I'm no help.
Mine was at 6.30 in the evening- I fasted from 6am- didn't eatagain till 8am the next day, was aloud some fluids minimal overnight, not eating wasn't that bad, not drinking was more difficult. Honestly, I was so nervous that talking about all the delicious food I wasn't aloud to eat was a welcome distraction. You will be fine, it's s massive thing that's about to happen and not eatting will be he first thing you forget after. I was also concerned as I'm not one to EVER miss a meal!! Haha! I was apreciative of not having eaten as I started to dryheave during the procedure.
@ashhsa I am more concerned about the lack of fluids. I even wake up in the middle of the night needing to drink water. I probably drink almost two gallons a day!
You'll be fine. My first was scheduled for 1 pm but didn't happen until 3:30 due to some emergencies. I fasted from midnight (well, from when I went to bed) and I honestly don't remember feeling anything but anxious to meet my baby and excited about becoming a mommy... food was far from my mind! You'll be on IV fluids so you won't feel super thirsty, and the nurses will make sure you have whatever is best for you as soon as it's safe. Good luck!
I have a c scheduled at 3 on Tuesday and the doctor told me I can eat 8 hours before the surgery, can have clear liquids until 3 hours before the surgery, and at the 3 hour mark I can no longer consume anything. Hopefully those 3 hours will go fast since I'll be in preop for 2 of them!
I just had mine I went in first thing in the morning and I felt like I was starving I never eat that early but because I couldn't have anything that's all I could think about I don't know if I could have actually eaten but I wanted to
You will be fine. Ther is no point worrying about it- you are aloud a sip here and there to wet your mouth and you will be drinking again in small amounts much sooner than you will be eatting. Good luck.
@mbud926 - that makes me feel better. As long as they allow me some fluids closer than 8 hours.
In the meantime, I'm starting to get crampy so maybe I'll go into labor or my cervix is dilating so that they can do an induction instead of a section.
