31 weeks and I have some questions

Im 31 weeks today and my OB said the baby is head down. Im assuming that's normal at this point? I was also wondering about this pain I get every so often. Its a sharp and sudden pain in/around my ribs...usually on my left side. It literally makes me stop whatever Im doing. It only last for a few minutes. What is that? Is it just the baby stretching out? Ill be a FTM so I don't have a clue lol

Re: 31 weeks and I have some questions

  • FTM here too but I know that when my baby stretches out and gets up into my ribs it can hurt. Also, my baby was breech most of my pregnancy and started to turn (I think to a sideways position) around 30 weeks. Totally normal, doesn't mean baby is necessarily coming any time soon, just starting to prepare, and there's still plenty of time for him/her to continue to spin and flip and whatnot.

  • could be baby stretching. when my LO gets into my ribs, it can be painful. if it's a concern, you could/should mention it to your OB at your next appointment. they'll probably have a better idea than most of us here.
  • I had an ultrasound today 30 weeks and baby is also head down. My doctor said she probably will not flip again but that it doesn't mean she's going to come early.

I don't know about the rib pain. I'll occasionally get a foot up in mine when LO stretches out but nothing like what you're describing.
  • Im guessing that's what she's doing, stretching, and Im getting little feet in my ribs. Thank you for the responses and personal experiences!
  • You're baby still has enough room to keep turning. He or she may stay that way till end or move and go back. It's a hood thing if baby is head down and stays that way. It doesn't mean you'll deliver early just getting positioned and ready.
The pain is most likely from the extra pushing, stretching, kicking, and punching going on in there. Some pain and shortness of breath is normal at this stage of the game.
  • FTM as well. I am 31 weeks and baby has been head down for most of my pregnancy and has not be a concern with my OB. For the last week I have had a constant pain in my left side just under my ribs. I massaged the cartilage between my ribs (I'm a licensed massage therapist) and loosened it up and things felt good for a day and I've noticed it tightening back up. I've been told it's from the baby moving around and pushing on everything in there.
  • STM I got rib pain from a combo of baby stretching and my ribs expanding around that time. My ribs expanded about 2" during pregnancy and went back to their original measurement (maybe .5") larger but after I stopped BFing my pre-pregnant bras fit fine.
