That smelly smell

edited January 2016 in May 2016 Moms
Ok ladies, this is another tough one...I hope I'm not alone with this. I know some of you already noticed the different smells of your SO, which are not always pleasant ;). But did you notice a change of smell on yourself since you got pregnant?!
Maybe it's because I live in the tropical north of Australia, but I feel like my body odour has changed, for the worse! And I'm sweating more than ever, even with the aircon on. Even shortly after a shower and putting on deodorant I feel like I stink! I never had that before! I have to wash my only fitting maternity bra every night, because at the end of the day it smells so badly. Please tell me I'm not alone!

  • You're not alone.

  • Happened to me last time and this time. And I'm in a very cold climate, your nose is just so much more sensitive. I'm constantly worried that others will smell me but I don't think they can.
  • I usually only notice it at the gym. I'm like OMG, I smell terrible. I'm hoping other people can't smell me five machines away. haha

I sometimes feel like a smell follows me around. I'm sniffing things trying to figure out what it is, then I'm like it's not ME, is it?!? I have yet to figure it out, but so far H hasn't complained that I stink...
  • I have it this time too-- I think it's a combination of increased odor sensitivity and increased sweating. I've asked a few people who are always honest about odor and they said they can't detect a difference. To be on the safe side though, I'm still applying deodorant more often and washing my bra more often.
  • I didn't notice it but my husband did :( told me my smell is different and that I'm just more smelly than usual. Now I just feel gross
  • @AnastasiaBeaverhausen09 I have definitely noticed the increased foot odor! Granted, I am wearing heavy socks and boots, but they absolutely REEK by the end of the day. It has made me a little more hesitant to ask MH for foot rubs...well, just a little!

  • I've definitely noticed a different smell. Sitting at my desk yesterday I noticed something. Didn't think it was me but then I got up and it followed. Bleh. Hopefully no one else is noticing. I put my deodorant in my bag today so I can reapply just in case.
  • This happened last time and this time too, although not as bad this time. I make DH sniff me and he assured me it was nothing, but I still shower twice a day just to be safe! The good news is I didn't notice it as much after awhile and it went away right after DS was born.
  • This is total TMI, but I feel like "down there" smells. I asked DH and he said he didn't notice anything. I know the combo of pregnancy nose + vaginal changes are on high-drive but man, I hope its not noticeable. I have a DR appt tomorrow and will ask her if maybe its an infection.

I have noticed this too! For me, it isn't necessarily a bad smell, just a lot more poignant smell than what I am used to. My turn to TMI...I have always been obsessive about keeping clean down there, so now it has kicked into overdrive. H hasn't said anything, but I think I am going to ask him about it.
  • @yogahh massive TMI but I swore my "area" smelled like BBQ chicken. I haven't noticed any other symptoms of an infection but was totally planning on bringing it up to my OB, even though I may not use the exact same comparison!

Shower twice a day?! I wish I had your energy... I'm lucky if I shower every two days. I rotate between baths and showers. I don't smell me yet.. so hopefully no one else does either.

Yup. Never eating BBQ chicken again

I'm sorry but this entire thread of posts has me giggling in my office.. especially ^. I love that we are all so open and honest with each other. Pregnancy brings such a precious bond... and some not so cool side effects!

  • Good thing I ate my chicken nuggets last night. I think after reading this thread I am done. LOL
  • Ah what a relief to know that others have the same problem. I guess I just have to stink my life away until I give birth, haha!

Shower is probably generous of me, I rinse off before DS gets up and again before bed. But I only wash my hair once a week...so, maybe I do smell?!
  • I've noticed an almost chemical smell sometimes from down there and I've been thinking about wearing panty liners between that and a little more discharge than before pregnancy. I was worried about being more smelly also, but my husband assured me I do not. I also shower every other day (my hair takes forever to dry and so I let it air dry and wet hair in a cold environment sucks). The other day at work I heard the ladies a few desks from me talking about somebody specific smelling bad and I didn't catch who they were talking about, but I'm really hoping it wasn't me. I wouldn't think they'd talk about me with me being within earshot, but who knows, maybe it was some passive-aggressive thing.

  • This. All of this. Yes. Times a million. TMI but I never thought twice about a quick roll in the hay before but now I don't let my husband near me without taking a full shower first. Not like that's happening much and now the poor guy gets excited when I take a shower at night lol.
