Stroller?

Hi, all. I'm a FTM, and so far we've done really well getting everything we need for LO's arrival-- whenever he chooses to make his debut. In fact, I have everything except a stroller (which I just realized today). For those of you STM+, how soon do you think I need one? It doesn't seem to me to be an urgent purchase, but I could be wrong. Any thoughts?

Re: Stroller?

  • I used mine a lot once we could get out of the house while I was on maternity leave. Just walking around the mall was good for my sanity and while we did baby wear a lot it was nice to just put the baby down and walk without him asleep and hot on me. DS is 2 and we still use it at the zoo, gardens, places where there is lots of walking or where we plan to be for a while so he has the option of somewhere to sit while we keep doing what we are doing. Also if you don't have a stroller then you carry baby in the car seat and that sucker gets heavy!

  • Even with my other February baby (she'll actually be 5 on my due date!) we used the stroller quite a bit in the beginning. Like @Aussiechicka said, getting out of the house during maternity leave was awesome. We walked around the block on days it wasn't too cold. It was so great for my sanity to get out and move.
  • I will be using a stroller immediately. My eldest is in school and I will put baby in carrier/stroller to pick him up along with my daughters. I park in the neighborhood next to the school so it's a must for myself. But it's good to have if you don't want to carry the carrier around with you
  • I used a clip and go travel system with my infant so I used it immediately. Otherwise it all depends how often you're out and about.
  • I was using mine with ds1 by around 3 weeks when we started venturing out to walk the mall just to get out of the house. Just depends on how much you plan to get out and when.

  • I started using mine right away. If we went somewhere and baby fell asleep in the car it was much easier to put the carseat on the stroller as opposed to getting baby out of the carseat and into a baby carrier. We also walk a lot. I started going for walks around the block and around the neighborhood when DS was about a week. I could have used the carrier but it was nice to push the stroller around.
  • I like having a stroller, but I much prefer Babywearing when they're tiny and little.
  • Thanks, everyone. I think I'm going to get the stroller now rather than wait. I hadn't thought about how much being able to get out of the house (and sit him down somewhere while out and about) might be good for my sanity. The things us FTM never think of!

    This ^^

I have a travel system and I also received a carrier when I'm at home and we want to go on a walk with the dog I can put her in the carrier if I don't want to lug around the carseat/stroller. Good to have both options if possible.

  • We used it pretty much right away. We had a stroller that the carrier clicked into. If you're planning on wearing baby a lot, you won't need a stroller as much. I never really cared for the travel system stroller. It was a bit bulky for me. This time we're using a stroller frame that the carrier sits in.

  • I guess I'm the odd ball. I didn't use mine until DD was about 4 months old and I decided to take up running. I wore her everywhere because that's what was easier for me and I hated the stroller taking up space in my trunk when I wanted to go somewhere. So she was only ever in her stroller for my morning runs. Also she hated HATED being in the travel system in her stroller because she likes to be difficult lol
  • We used ours immediately, as in we stopped at Babies R Us on the way home from the hospital because I was desperately in need of nipple shields, lol! Also like everyone else said, we used it just to get out of the house for a walk or quick dinner. We had an all terrain stroller that we could click the car seat into so that we wouldn't have to disturb the baby if he fell asleep on the way.

  • With my first two we didn't use it right off the bat. Maybe after a few months. This time we will be using our double stroller right away.

  • We used our stroller right away. It feels really nice to get out of the house and feel mobile. :)
