3rd Trimester

35 weeks and barely look pregnant

I lost alot of weight prior to getting pregnant. Once I found out I was pregnant all I could think of was that all my hard work was for nothing because I was going to just gain it all back now that I'm pregnant. This has not been the case at all. I've gained 10 lbs total this pregnancy. I'm now 35 weeks and I hear daily that there is no way I'm this far along. If I have a sweat shirt on or baggy clothes you can't even tell I'm pregnant. The dr is not concerned at all I had an ultrasound at 33 weeks and he weights 4.3 lbs. I'm guessing it's just my body structure and that all women carry different. It just makes me feel that I'm doing something wrong or my baby isn't getting enough nutrition. Anyone else have this problem?

Your baby will take from you the nutrition that it needs. You may just have a long torso and your expected/healthy weight gain depends on your weight pre-pregnancy. If your ob isn't concerned then I wouldn't worry.

I'm the same. I have a nice bump to me im i look huge.... But everyone else says i look like im 5-6 months but im 35 weeks too. Be glad your not carrying a huge bump I for sure am. I didn't loose a bunch of weight prior to pregnancy .... But I did work out before and during pregnancy till yesterday my doc told me to stop....(heart rate issues) not everyone gets huge bumps... Especially if you eat right and work out regularly you shouldn't expect to get a huge bump. Even if you don't workout you could still have a small bump. We both have 5 weeks to go and our bumps can seriously pop out still!!!!! this is when most women get the biggest my ob told me.

If your doctor isn't concerned, then there's no reason to be concerned.
  • So is this post mainly to brag on how small you are? You could have left out about 90% of the information you gave if you just wanted advice. I've also only gained about 11 pounds but I have a HUGE bump. I'm 30 weeks and my kid is 4.5 pounds. It just is what it is.
  • I was really small last pregnancy and gained 10 lbs total (baby born 41+4) and gained 4 in the last 10 days of pregnancy.

I don't think this is a humble brag, Moms who don't gain a lot during pregnancy are just as worried as Moms who gain a lot! I googled obsessively, but I was bigger to begin with (5'8", 200 lbs) with a tall torso and eat ridiculously healthy when pregnant (also cutting out booze and cheese helps!) so my OB said as long as I'm healthy and baby is growing normally then she's happy.

This pregnancy I'm 28 weeks and have gained 6lbs so far and my doctor is happy with things so far. Don't compare yourselves with others : )

Everyone carries different and of course people will be like wow you look small. I think when they hear 35 weeks they assume you should be massive or something.

I have gained a lot of weight for my body size but the doctor is not concerned I guess because how I'm carrying the weight. If your doctor is not concerned then I wouldn't be. It's great you have a small bump :)

  • I'm the opposite-I'm all bump. But I've not gained anywhere as much as I look like I have. My OB is unconcerned-I'm short with a very short torso the only way for my baby to grow is out. Everyone carries differently.

Though if I have one more person ask if I'm sure it's not twins/saying I'm about to pop I may scream at them.

  • Consider yourself lucky - smaller bump means less problems moving, less pain, discomfort and stretch marks. There always be discussions of how much weight a pregnant woman should gain, but the truth is the more you gain the harder it will be to loose and the more problems will stay. If doctor is not concerned, so should not you. I am not too big and feel much better then majority of ladies on this forum
