Pregnant after 35

First Appointment

Well, I just made my first appointment! My OB doesn't see patients until they are 8 weeks, so I have to wait until February 1. It's gonna be a long 4 weeks! I'm kind of glad school starts up again soon. That and my toddler ought to keep me busy enough to make the time pass somewhat quickly!

For the others who are early in their pregnancies, when are your first appointments?

Re: First Appointment

  • My first appointment was at 10 weeks. It was SUCH a hard wait, but the good news was that I was far enough along by that first appointment to be able to hear a heartbeat. I also got a ton out of the way on that first day - exam, pap smear, basic bloodwork, met with the genetic counselor and sent off MaterniT21 testing and carrier screening. It was very efficient. (On the flip side I spent all that time not really believing I was pregnant so I went a little cray-cray with the home pregnancy tests - haha!)

  • You're totally right, @redheadbride15 ! That is a bug upside. Even though our dates were off with my LO and we were only 7 weeks, not 8, when we went in, we did get to see that heartbeat, which was awesome. I have to remind myself that these waiting periods are good times to work on faith and trust. But still. Come on, Feb 1!

  • I've had 2 already. My first one 12/23 I wasn't measuring far enough to be considered an actual confirmation so they did it as an early confirmation. The u/s was really blurry.
So I went back yesterday for a true confirmation. The got to see the tapeworm and see the heartbeat.
I go back 1/26 for my NT and then in February for my next appt.
