TWW - progesterone and exercise questions

We did our first IUI on Thursday and then on Saturday I was started on progesterone suppositories twice a day. I have a couple questions. 1st, I'm getting mixed info about bd during this time due to the progesterone. Should we avoid it completely or is it ok if its been a few hours since I inserted it? Can I insert right after? I don't want to jeopardize anything but you know :) My second question is about exercising during this time. Should I avoid it completely? I have been doing Piyo (cross between pilates and yoga) however I'm reading that some of those moves might put too much pressure on the core/reproductive organs. I don't have access to a treadmill or elliptical so that's out. I'd like to do some kind of exercise but I'm worried I'll overdo it. I feel like I just need to sit on the couch and not move for the next 2 weeks, lol! Thoughts? And thanks!

The progesterone and sex part all depends on what you feel comfortable with. I'd put it in after, but then again we had a bit of a dry spell because of how it made me feel down there. The progesterone won't hurt anything as conception would have already occured by then...so you're doing it purely for fun at this point anyway.

I used to work out 3x/week with a personal trainer doing pretty intense workouts with heavy weights. I continued doing so until I was about 14 weeks along (because our contract ended and I just had to cancel too often during the latter part of the first tri because of nausea/fatigue). But for the first few weeks, we didn't change a thing, and I continued to squat lifting over 100 pounds until I stopped working out with him. If anything, exercise is good as it'll increase blood flow and help you relax and keep your mind off all this. Remember that most people only find out they're pregnant several weeks after conception has occurred and haven't changed a thing in their life, including their workout routine. Best of luck to you!

  • Thanks for the response! And congrats!! I think I'm just overly cautious right now because I don't want to screw up. I've heard that before though about working out if your body is already used to it. I just wasn't sure if that reigned true with getting pregnant this way vs naturally. But yeah, tons of women don't know until several weeks in. How lucky are they?? I'm sitting here worrying about every single little move I make right now and will be for the next couple weeks and then if we get good news I'm sure I'll go into an even more hyper-cautious mode...my poor husband, lol! It was just the way the nurse replied when I asked her about exercise, it was like "noooooo!" but to me it's a stress reliever too so do I stress out from not working out and jeopardize things that way or work out a little and take the risk? I'm rambling, haha :)
  • Hi!  Just to chime in about working out.... I would be a touch cautious with crazy core twisting, but besides that, exercise is great!  If you're comfortable, ask your instructor about some prenatal core modifications (C curves, on all fours lifting legs/arms).  Mainly though just listen to your body.  Best of luck!
