Monistat burns like crazy!!

hi ladies! So for the third time his pregnancy I'm battling an yeast infection.

My midwive said Monistat 7 is safe to use and so I used the one with the ovules last time. This time I got the pre-filled tubes with cream and it burns like crazy! I'm on the third day and I don't know if I can bear 4 more times of this awful pain, it's worse than the YI itself!

My question is do you think I can switch to the ovules at this point? It's the same drug so I'm assuming it should be fine.

I'll ask at the pharmacy tomorrow but I thought I'd post here since I can't sleep anyway from the burning

Re: Monistat burns like crazy!!

  • I had used it earlier this pregnancy and I could only make it through two doses. It does burn so bad. Later when I had a second infection the doctor prescribed me a prescription treatment---it burned just as bad and I only made it through two doses. Thankfully I just started eating a ton of plain yogurt, cut out as much sugar from my diet and drank a ton of water and with that and the two doses each time kicked the two infections. I would talk to your doctor but I believe at this point all of the treatments are going to burn. :(

  • I had to use that earlier in my pregnancy as well and it was awful! I was miserable for a good hour after I used it. And it didn't even work. Never again! My doctor prescribed me a medication called Diflucan and a single dose of it took it away immediately and hasn't been back since! I hope you find some relief or they figure out a different way for you! :(
  • If the Monistat is driving you nuts, I agree with pp that plain yogurt can help a lot. Look to make sure something like "made with live cultures" is on the label, because it's the good bacteria in the yogurt that does the trick. It takes longer than prescription meds, but helps a lot in the long run! Eat yogurt every day, and if you're desperate and don't mind giving it a shot, apply a bit of plain, sugarless yogurt with live cultures directly to your vagina. I gave this a try a few years ago when I was plagued by a recurring yeast infection. It took a few days, but it worked for me.

    Good luck!
  • I would definitely see if you can get a prescription for Diflucan. One pill, and it works great!!
  • I had a yeast infection earlier on in my pregnancy, and the Monistat burned so bad that I spent an hour in the shower crying and trying to flush it out. With a baster. I wish I were making this up. Never again will I use that stuff, I echo PP who said that it's worse than the yeast infection itself. I would definitely ask your OB for other mediciations you could use. Yogurt is a good idea too!
  • Hi ladies, so after reading some stuff online I tried this yesterday (day 4 of treatment) - I put some vaseline on the outer "areas" and then laid down in bed while putting the cream in, as deep as I could go. It didn't burn this time.It was a little bit uncomfortable in the morning, but not nearly as bad as it was the last 2 nights. I think my lady bits are just so swollen and raw that the cream is irritating. The vaseline helped block the contact

I hope it goes away over the next few treatments. I am still seeing the gross discharge :( UGH girl problems!
