Swings are sent from heaven

I know a bunch of you have a baby like mine that constantly needs to be held and sleep on you. I finally caved and bought a swing today. Everyone told me how much babies love them but I felt like we already had so much stuff taking up so much room I wanted to save myself the money, but with hubby working overtime and me losing sanity I caved and it's so worth it! LO loves it and its the only thing he has slept in besides on us in a rocker or couch. Just wanted to put it out there for you others suffering from fussy baby. Seriously this kid never even naps during the day and the swing makes miracles happen!

Re: Swings are sent from heaven

  • We got a left to right swing from a friend and LO HATED it. He would sit in it for maybe 3 min and then scream his head off. My sister got him a RNP for Christmas and we have had success with that. He still has times where he wil nap on me and once I put him in the RNP he's wide awake.
  • The swing is the devil.

  • Every baby is different. My little one loves the swing and does not care for the Rock and Play
  • There should be a store where you can take LO after they are born to see what baby crap they like. That way you aren't left with a house full of crap you can't use!

This is an awesome idea! LO does pretty good in the RNP, then she likes the swing, then the bouncer. DD1 hated the bouncer but I didn't have a RNP with her.

  • My 3 yo basically lived in his bouncer & swing. This LO every time I put him in his bouncer he tries to sit up. He's only 7 weeks! He'll swing his head back and forth until he gets enough momentum to sit up. It terrifies the hell out of me. Like he's going to catapult himself out of there. I (stupidly) took apart the motor to our swing thinking that's where the batteries go so I now destroyed the swing & do not want to pay to get a new one after so many failed attempts to fix what I had broken.

  • @RaisingJulian do you have a baby consignment store near you? Ours is a God send, anything I couldn't return has been taken here to clean up the house.
  • My babe hates the swing and the bouncer. Makes me really sad LoL.
  • It took some time but my LO loves his swing now. And he's warming up to the bouncer finally.

  • My LO is warming to the bouncer after my mil set it up on the table with us during lunch one day. She speculated there was either a cold draft going under his butt when he was so close to the floor or that he just wanted to be up with everyone and see everything (or both)
  • My daughter either coslept or slept in her swing for 15 months. She was way too big for it in the end but it was the only way she would sleep if I wasn't next to her. We loved the swing! Haven't tried it yet with DS though.
  • @angelinthepit23 we have a Once Upon A Child but it's a 20-25 minute drive. I completely forgot about it though so I might just have to check there! Thanks for reminding me lol
  • My LO would NOT sleep in a bassinet. As soon as I put her down in there, her eyes would shoot open and she'd scream. We bought a RNP and she slept right through her first night in it from midnight to 530 am, and has ever since. No amount of money can be put on a good night's sleep. It was like a gift from God! :)

  • @RaisingJulian np! We have one here that is my go-to!

  • We got one that vibrates, swings sideways and forward and plays music or nature sounds. He will only sit in there if it's completely still and no sound. You can take the seat off to use as a bouncer, but he does not like that. He just wants to be suspended in the air completely still and quiet. Luckily we bought it used so I only spent 40 Vs 130 dollars.

My son only cries in his swing when we sit down to eat since I have it set up between the living and dinning room. I think he doesn't like for us to have our backs to him. He also loved being on the table at thanksgiving sitting on his bouncer, but I don't put him upthere because he fidgets too much. I can't wait 'till he grows enough to sit on a highchair!
  • My baby is actually sleeping on it as I type , she loves her swing :)
  • We have a Graco sweetpeace. It's the only reason G takes a nap longer than 20 minutes during the day.

  • I didn't get a swing, but DD loves the RNP. I'm with previous poster I can't wait till she can sit on her own! I think that will be a huge milestone for us.
  • DS loved his swing when we first got home and it was so nice! But now (6wks) he hates it! He goes nuts the second we set him in it. He will scream the whole time he is in it now.
  • My LO loves his swing. My mom bought it for us when he was about 5-6 weeks old. He loves it and will fall asleep in it half the time.
  • My lo hates everything!! Hell sit in the swing for about 2 minutes and lose it. The bouncer, I can't even get him buckled before he starts crying! And the rnp, nope. I have a picky child. He wants to sit straight up so I wrap the boppy around him on the couch and sit him in the middle

This has been my child lately. If he is awake he pretty much has to be sitting up or standing. However we don't have a boppy, so it's just been either on my lap or propped in the corner of the couch. But either way it's really high maintenance, cause even propped you gotta make sure he doesn't fall over.

Not gonna lie. It's pretty funny when they do the "slowly falling over" thing. My LO gets an entertaining "shocked" look as he starts slowly descending face first towards the sofa cushion. Like "oh noooo! I'm going down!"

Haha, you're right though. My guy tends to fall sideways and sometimes he will kind of temporarily catch himself midfall and get this look like he's so pleased with himself, and then he starts falling again.

  • The swing beat me today... Thought it would be a cinch to put together, but that's not the case when you're running on 3 hours of sleep
