nbr: what the heck is 'snappy casual'

DH's work is having a holiday dinner/party/whatever on the 21st.  It is 'snappy casual".  A step up from casual but by no means formal.  I'm in MI, what the heck do I wear?  Do I go with dressy pants and a nice top instead of a dress?

  • Yes, I would think so.

  • I'd think a nice top and khakis, non-dressy skirt, etc.  The 'casual' part rules out dress pants I think.

  • Haha, a friend of mine recently got this on a rehearsal dinner invite.  We'd never heard of it before either!

She ended up wearing a cross between business casual and what she'd wear to go clubbing.

  • To me, business casual would be slacks and a nice shirt/sweater. Snappy would mean a trendy skirt or dress.
  • From Urban Dictionary:

    1. Snappy Casual 43 up, 15 downlove ithate it
Attire that is acceptable for an informal meetings but still quite stylish. Often includes pointy dress shoes.
Congressman Miller said the attire for QTC would be Snappy Casual.
    2. snappy casual 41 up, 54 downlove ithate it
Presbyterian College's way of dressing up, but not too formal. It is snappy yet casual. It is attire that is not too formal, yet not too casual.
Most PC school functions require snappy casual dress.

    The event: Christmas cocktails
    The dress code: Snappy casual
    Deciphering the dress code:

    >> Look for a dress or blouse that can do double duty for work and play. Pair it with a jacket for a bit more coverage for day; let it fly solo at night.

    >> Think accessories. Add visual interest with a bold, colorful statement necklace. Bright stones and textured metal make the look way more party worthy.

    >> Opt for metallic shoes that are not too strappy, such as a pump or even a bootie. Still festive, they don't read all-out-sexy the way a barely there stiletto might.
