Molluscum contagiosum treatment

My oldest has molluscum. Our doctors have said to just leave them allow. I know from reading that molluscum can last for 12 months or more.

Does anyone have recommended treatments? Any comments appreciated.

  • Don't just leave it!   Go to a dermatologist and have them treat it.  My oldest daughter got it around 18 months.  I had two different pediatricians tell me to leave it and it will go away in 6 months to two years.  The problem is that it is highly contagious and if they scratch it and get the virus on their hands and touch another body part or person it will spread.  My oldest daughter ended up getting it in various spots on her legs, arms, and torso.  Bumps would come and go, but the seemed to keep spreading and multiplying.  My youngest daughter ended up catching it.  When my oldest was nearly 4, we decided to get a second opinion from a dermatologist who said it is always best to treat it.  He used a topical liquid called cantharidin to treat it.  It worked wonders and now they are all gone and we are super grateful.  Good luck!
