If your LO sleeps in your room...

What does he/she sleep in? Our LO is 11 weeks and is still in his bassinet next to our bed. It's essentially a 3-sided, wooden mini crib that aligns perfectly with the height of our bed. LO has been sleeping in a Moses basket on top of it, and we have recently transitioned him to a mini mattress as he is outgrowing the basket and we eventually want to get him out of his swaddle. Curious though what others use for LOs who sleep in your room once they learn to roll. Our plan was to move LO to his crib around three months, but our house is a bi-level, and our room is upstairs whereas LO's room is downstairs. DH and I just aren't comfortable with him sleeping on another level of the house at this age, so we plan to keep him in our room - perhaps indefinitely. We obviously can't keep him on the bassinet as it only has three sides. We aren't ready for him to sleep in the bed with us yet because we need to upgrade to a king first and we want him to get a little older before that happens. In the meantime, we are debating what to use for sleep. Thinking Pack N Play will be our best bet. I think it would be nearly impossible to move his crib up all those stairs and into our room. Any other items out nowadays other than Pack N Play that might be conducive to our situation?

  • Rock and Play in our room until 4-5 months maybe sooner if she shows signs she's ready. It's up to LO. We did the same with DD1. I know some people are against using Rock and Plays because of flat head and there's articles about it, but my child is only ever in her rock and play to sleep it's not like she lives in it. Both my girls have perfect, round baseball heads.
  • Loading the player...
  • We use the pack n play with the attachment that brings the bottom up higher. Did the same with DD1.

  • We use this bassinet by my side of the bed. It's pretty big so he'll fit in it a while. I want to move him to his own crib/room by 6 months though.
  • Our little DD sleeps in our room in her crib and has since we brought her home.
  • We use the Arms Reach mini co-sleeper bassinet attached to my side of the bed.  It sounds very similar to what you have except the short side can be adjusted to make it a complete bassinet.  Luckily his room is right next to ours and we are hoping to transition him into his crib at 3 months.  The bassinet says its made for birth to five months but our little guy is very long and is maxing out on room already.
  • Pack and play... We have the kind with the adjustable bottom so he's up higher.
  • We live in an apt, and can't put DS' crib in the second bedroom due to steep stairs going up to the room. So, his crib is in our room. I use the PnP for naps during the day, and when we go visit family, and it works great.

Have you thought about a video monitor for the baby's room? I know you said you weren't crazy about having him on another floor, but I love our monitor even for our relatively small apartment. That way you could still see what's going on without having to go to another level.

  • PNP bassinet for now. The weight limit on the bassinet insert is only 15 pounds though.
  • Our baby sleeps in her crib in our room ... She has since we first brought her home :)
  • Our LOs room is upstairs and I am not ready for that move yet(or anytime soon really. He sleeps in a rock n play now and we're hoping to transition to the pack n play soon because our room is small and we're a bit crowded w/the pack n play and rock n play in there
  • We use a cradle. It's actually from when my husband was a baby. Can't attach an image for some reason but it looks like this: https://lib.store.yahoo.net/lib/woodsmithstore/heirloom-cradle-kit-LG-748b110.jpg
