Owlet monitor

Just curious if anyone has the new owlet monitor, it monitors baby's heart rate and pulse ox and alerts you to apnea and drops in oxygen level to prevent SIDS. We use the Snuza hero which I love, but it doesn't work in a swing (or our auto rock and play which he usually naps in). I would love to get the owlet but it's $250 and we already spent $100 on the Snuza. I'm an ICU nurse so having baby's vital signs continuously monitored is very appealing to me and I will definitely buy for next kid, and hopefully the price will drop by then. Just curious what you all think of it?

Re: Owlet monitor

  • Thank you, we may just go ahead and get it. I agree that it can detect so many things going wrong, even a fever (due to tachycardia).

I used to teach in a preschool and one of the parents unfortunately lost their child to SIDS. So when they had their little girl afterwards they used this at the preschool and I thought it was the coolest thing I've ever seen. It really works and it's so preventative. The little girls name was Summer and she started to turn blue while she was napping and the teachers wouldn't have known if it wasn't for the monitor
  • I try to convince everyone I know that they need one. I feel like there are the parents who roll their eyes at me like I'm a crazy person, and the parents who are like me and Must have it. If it saves my baby's life then it is priceless.

@dmbfan46835 I use the Snuza with the nanny and the owlet at home, just in case you want to keep it.

@chelseajeanene I think they should be standard at daycares. Daycare is so expensive, what is another $250? What a great way to protect those babies PLUS protect liability.
  • Thank you ladies, I'm ordering one today!
  • My little guy was 6 weeks early... all I did for the first two weeks of his life was watch the heart monitor...I feel like if I got one, I would go mad.
  • @klhelder good call, that's a great idea!

I agree! LO spent 5 days in the NICU and I freaked myself out the entire time just watching the stupid monitor! I think the owlet is really cool but personally it would drive me nuts.

I have the owlet and have been using mine on my preemie since I brought her home from the NICU 11 months ago and I love it! I think that it is worth every penny and I love that it has an app that lets me see my baby's vitals while she is wearing the owlet. I also love that it will alert me if there is a problem with my baby's heart rate or oxygen levels so I can know and go check on her. The peace of mind that my owlet has brought to me has been priceless. I can't say enough good things about the owlet, I love it so much!

Omg they lost one child and almost another?! How long do I have to worry about SIDS?! It freaks me out so bad. Might get this.
