fainting?

Anyone have any fainting? Last night, my oldest accidentally gave my youngest a bloody lip. I picked my 5 year old up to sit him on the kitchen counter to clean him up and I started to feel myself go. It was so weird because I got really hot and felt super nauseous. I put him down right away and laid down on the couch and started feeling better -albeit extremely wiped. Don't know if it was because I had not eaten yet, the heavy lifting, or what...

Anyone else get fainting spells?

Re: fainting?

  • I have been getting these and exactly how you are describing because my blood pressure keeps dropping really low. My OB told me to get a blood pressure cuff so I can take my bp when I feel like that and to call if it got below "x". There isn't much they can do to help it other then wearing compression socks and drinking Gatorade for electrolytes daily and staying hydrated. They told me just to lay on the floor and drink water when it happens and obviously not to drive etc.

  • That happened to me today... I carried my 2yo daughter up 4 flights of stairs and had to sit down at the top because I was so light headed
  • Me too.  Especially from going from siting to standing too fast.  Blood volume changes :/

  • I'm glad I'm not the only one! Yesterday I had to get out of the shower and sit down on the toilet. I couldn't even see it was so bad! I've also noticed when I get up to fast I get dizzy too. Thankfully I have not fainted yet! This is my first pregnancy, just wondering does this eventually go away??

  • I had this issue for my entire previous pregnancies, and it's no better this time. Nothing helps except laying down (which is super inconvenient). I have very low blood pressure, but I find orange juice has helped.

  • @tmk0325 I'm honestly not sure if it will subside. I didn't have it with my DD so this is new for me too, I sure hope it does!!!
  • I have my first appointment next Tuesday, it's definitely something i'm going to ask about.  I've had borderline high blood pressure in the past, but have lost some weight recently, so I'll be curious to see if my blood pressure is lower now!  I just kept thinking about that poor reporter that passed out during her interview on TV and then they said she was pregnant. I just kept thinking, I can relate!!

  • Fainting sucks! I am prone to fainting and have experienced this before I was pregnant. The biggest concern is falling and hurting yourself. So it's good to sit down with your head between your legs or better yet, lay down as soon as you start to feel bad. Don't get up too soon!!!! Set a timer if necessary and stay down for 10 minutes. But that super nauseous, hot feeling combined with sudden seeing dark and/or an urgent need to poop are horrible!!! All you can do it lay down. It's worse for me now that I'm pregnant. It will happen if I stand or sit too long and may also happen after I eat. I'm hoping it gets better. But for now, I spend a lot of time in the reclined position. :-/
  • I also experience this outside of pregnancy. My doctors just assume it's from a sudden drop in blood pressure. Sometimes mine can get pretty low. It's awful! I've experienced it a little in this pregnancy from time to time. It's rather unpleasant. Just make sure you eat often and drink plenty of water. It'll help keep your blood sugar even and of course keep you well hydrated. That's always seemed to help me.
