Hey ladies, stiiiiilllll searching for a name for DD2. DH and I were watching the Maltese Falcon the other night and both liked the name that sounds like "kuh-ryn." The emphasis seems to be about equal on both syllables. What spelling would you use to get this pronunciation? The movie used "Corinne," but I imagine most would pronounce that "kor-een." What do you guys think? Caryn (seems made up)?
EDIT: Okay, the clear consensus is Corinne. Yay! But now I find myself drawn to "kuh-rinn-uh" - same pronunciation but with an "a" at the end. Would that just be Corinna? I see that "Carina" is much more popular, but I want the middle syllable to be "rinn" not "reen." Thanks again!
Hunh. I looked it up on Imdb to double check the movies spelling and that character isn’t listed.
In any case, I have a niece named Corinne, and we pronounce it kuh-ryn. The r is the beginning of the second syllable. Her nickname is Rin-Rin and Rinney.
Thanks ladies, I guess *I'm* the one who would mispronounce it "kor-een!"
@Bringmemylongswordho"Corinne" is referred to in the Maltese Falcon rather than a character. Mary Astor's character's first story to Sam Spade is that she followed her vulnerable sister "Corinne" to San Francisco...
Please go with Corinne. My parents wanted that pronunciation for my middle name but spelled it Karyn. They're theory was it was phonetic ka-ryn but anyone who ever sees it thinks Karen. I love the name hate the spelling.

Caryn is an odd variant of Karen.

Corinna would be like Corinne with an -uh on the end.
