Tachycardia

I was referred to a cardiologist a couple weeks ago for increased palpitations and have seen the cardiologist, worn a heart monitor, and had an echocardiogram to try to figure out what is going on. I have another appointment on the 30th to go over all my test results and see if there's anything they can do. I've already been told to prepare myself for a c-section because of how big baby is, but now I'm reading that this is another reason. I'm really bad about expecting the worst so can anyone share their experience and maybe calm me down?

Re: Tachycardia

  • I have had a fast heart rate most of this pregnancy. I have been 116-138. It is worse when I am working. My work up was normal so I was told to stay hydrated and rude it out. So far no problems, but I suspect it will start to freak out people as I go into twice weekly no stress tests since I am carrying twins and that anesthesia will hate it when/if I have to have a caection cuz it makes it look like I am in distress when I am not. That help?

  • My heart has been going crazy too but every time I bring it up they brush it off and say it's normal in pregnancy. It doesn't feel normal to be this aware of my heart beating. It feels like it's going to jump out of my chest. Anyway, my mom was diagnosed with tachycardia when she was pregnant with me and has been on heart meds ever since. She's also developed arrhythmia and had an ablation for it recently. Not sure if that has to do with the tachycardia but the meds helped her tremendously for the past 28 years. Maybe they will give you something to help?
  • @dtaded13 they said since I'm so close to my due date they don't want to give me anything for it. I meet with my MFM specialist on the 13th and my OB soon after that so I guess I'll know for sure what the plan with the baby is then.

  • @DrillSergeantCat good luck to you! I can imagine it's nerve wracking
  • I had extra electrical pathways in my heart that would cause SVT more often than usual during pregnancy. I could go from resting to 200+ bpm instantly. They could only really diagnose the cause after they caught it on EKG during an episode. I was on beta blockers to help prevent during my first pregnancy and had an ablation procedure done when my son was 1. Since then, no more episodes!
