Fertility meds affecting future non-medicated cycles?

I just had a quick question I wanted to throw out to you ladies who might have experience with this.  I usually have relatively short cycles (around 26 days, O around CD 13).  Last month we did a medicated IUI with follistim CD 3-8 + trigger shot on CD 9 because I responded really quickly to the injections.  Now I'm taking a break from the meds this cycle while the urologist treats my DH with clomid for our MFI issues.  I've been tracking my cycle with OPKs twice daily since CD 10, and I'm currently on CD 16 today.  I've been getting the ugliest BFNs.  I feel frustrated and like my body is all out of whack.  Is it possible that the meds I took last cycle could be making my cycle longer this month?

I appreciate any feedback!

Re: Fertility meds affecting future non-medicated cycles?

  • Hello @wifeinraleigh28 , I hope you are enjoying your holidays. I do not have any knowledge actually . I wanted to share my story. I have PCOS so I do not have regular periods but when I have a period it is normal flow. I had three letrozole cycles and then I had to take a break to have HSG test. At CD18, they tested whether I ovulated and I had not, which is not a surprise. This week at CD28 I had spotting , I thought it is the start of the period but it stopped immediately. I have never had this in my life, I either have a full-period or nothing in between maybe for months. So I don`t know what it means. Long story short, I was also suspecting that it might have been due the medication I had used last three months.

  • @wifeinraleigh28 I have no experience with this but I am sorry your cycle is out of whack. I was on Femara for my medicated cycles and responded quickly so I ovulated earlier than normal. I usually ovulate normally around cycle day 16-18 on my non medicated cycles and this month (non- medicated) I seem to have ovulated around CD 17 so back to normal for me. How frustrating! Maybe the injectibles are different and can throw your body out of whack. Have you had any other signs that you may be ovulating?

  • Thanks for the responses @ZoeFer and @roxgibbons!  I guess logic would state that any kinds of meds can mess with your system for awhile, so it's probably not unlikely that the meds last cycle are changing things up for me this time around.  I don't have any signs of ovulation at all... my CM shows no signs although I know that's just a secondary symptom anyway and doesn't always change.  I had a headache yesterday and of course I thought "maybe it's because I'm ovulating!" but it was probably just dehydration.  Just because it's stressing me out so bad I'm thinking of forgetting about charting this cycle, stopping the OPKs, and just getting back to it when AF starts.  Being stressed out about it is probably just messing with my cycle even more!
