I was just wondering if anyone has thought to put together an inspiration board to focus on during labor? I've been playing around with the idea, and know that I need to get on it soon as I am 37w4d and will be induced at 39w (GD).
@stephanienjer same. I'm living out of my robe. I'll put on underwear and a nursing bra but everything else is totally dependent on how much effort I had to put into showering that day...
At my labour and delivery class the instructor said it helps to have a focal point to focus on during labour - is that the kind of thing you're talking about? I was just planning on bringing an ultrasound picture of baby girl to focus on while labouring
In one of the labor books that I read it said that visualizing what is physically happening (and how the pain is for a purpose and means your body is working the way it should) can help and it gives some diagrams. I was thinking of maybe bringing the books to look at the pictures so that within each contraction I can think about the muscles stretching further and further. I know it sounds weird haha
I know some people will listen to inspirational songs, or have bible verses and things to read to help them get through the pain. It does help to have something to focus on. If anything, distraction can be a great tool too. Bring a favorite movie or card games and other stuff to do so you're not just sitting there focused on every moment of your contractions and discomfort.
It's types of things like birth affirmations and things/pictures that help you focus. It's more for mom's who are giving birth without pain medications. A lot of my friends have made birth affirmation banners to hang that they can focus on when things get hard.
@maddisonwallace I just got an adult coloring book and it is totally going in my labor bag.
I have one too. I was considering not bringing it for the pure fact that I already look REALLY young, and now that my face is fuller I look even younger, and I didn't want to look like a 12 year old giving birth. Still haven't totally decided.
I took a Disney princess colouring book and a pack of crayons on my honeymoon and airport security was questioning the whereabouts of a child traveling with us during the bag screening... Doesn't have to be an adult one
