Athlete's foot???

35 weeks pregnant... And my feet have been really itchy lately especially around my toes.. I originally thought it was egsima (sp?).. So I have been putting my Eucerin cream on them.... It has been over a week and I think it is getting worse.. My husband was looking and he thinks it is athlete's foot... Is there something safe to use while pregnant to treat this? I have never had this before... Anybody else ever have this during pregnancy?

Re: Athlete's foot???

  • I have chronic athletes feet. What helps me is Apple cider vinegar. 1 cup of Apple cider vinegar three parts of warm or hot water. Soak each foot for 15-20 minutes daily. There is something in the vinegar that kills the fungus. And its completely pregnancy safe. Be careful of certain creams, even though they are topical they can still be dangerous during pregnancy.

  • I started to get this for th first time in my 3rd tri. It's because of all of the excess sweating. I used some foot powder in my socks for a few days and tries to go barefoot whenever I was home. That seemed to do the trick.
  • I would go to your doctors/midwife for advice. I am currently struggling with an itchy as rash on my feet too! It could be just athletes foot, it could be something else. My doctor is currently waiting for my bloods back, to see if I have cholestasis (spelling?), which isn't so harmful to mum but can be very harmful to bub. Between scratching (so, so itchy..) I've been looking up causes of itching during pregnancy, and read about a condition called prurigo (spelling again?), which I think may be the cause. Prurigo can be treated with a cortisone cream, which will clear up the rash, and doesn't pose any risks to mum or bub. My rash is on my feet (started out between my toes and along the line where flip flops sit, and is not also on my fingers, knuckles etc. It looks like tiny little pimples.

  • I would first ask your dr, but Lotrimin is a Cat B drug, which is safe to use during pregnancy. I would try the apple cider vinegar, as I've heard others say it works for them. Either way, I hope you find some relief!

  • I've had it for my whole pregnancy and feel like amputating my foot. I've tried a fungal cream and Tinactin spray but neither is working. My doctor thinks it might clear up once I deliver. Best of luck!
