  • I would never think of the plant name thing. I think Olive Magnolia is beautiful.

  • I am so grateful for this board. Honestly, just seeing those two names up there in that poll makes me not like either of them.

I love Olive, and want to make it work for us, but I'm struggling so ridiculously much with a middle name that feels right. We adore the name, but I fear we will choose one of our back up names instead if we're unable to find something that feels just right.

I'm almost 39 weeks pregnant and I'm laying awake at night obsessing over her name. I have so many questions. If you'd care to take a stab at my insane thought process, please do!

    - Is Olive Maeve too similar sounding?
    - Is Olive Claire too choppy sounding when paired with a single syllable last name? (Think Smith...)
    - Is Claire Magnolia pretty?
    - Is Magnolia Claire a nice choice?
    - What are some potential nick names you could think of for Magnolia? My husband doesn't love this name, but I may be able to sway him with a great nick name.
    - If you love Olive, what would you pair it with?
    - Violet Claire & Violet Maeve are others we considered, but we're unsure since we know so many new little Violet's born since summer. Should we get over that and still consider Violet? Is the nn Lottie as cute as it sounds in my head?
    - Any wild/out of left field suggestions for us that you think we should consider?

Magnolia is my favorite name, and is what I would use if I had a little girl.  I like the nicknames Nola, Lola, and Mags. I think Olive Magnolia is pretty dang adorable as well. Also love Violet nn Lottie. Butttt I would go with Magnolia, because I love it and am biased.

  • Olive Maeve isn’t my favorite.
I like Olive Claire. Don't mind the "choppy"
    Is Olive Clara an option?
    Claire Magnolia is nice.
Magnolia nn maggie, mag, magna, nola, lia, cannoli, (okay, that last one might just be me)
I like your other options better than Violet, but lottie is cute.

Olive Clara is an option, for sure. We just like Claire because it's my middle name. My husband prefers Claire to Clara though.

Cannoli is cute, and would likely happen in this house too. Ha ha. Our son Ari is Arlito Mosquito most days....

  • If you love Olive, use it. Same with Magnolia. I do agree that Olive Magnolia is a bit too plant-oriented for my taste. Though, maybe this is a UO, I don't care all that much about fn/mn flow since you so rarely use the full name in conversation. Also, I think either Olive Claire or Magnolia Claire (I'd do nn Maggie) works!

  • First off, I think you are in great shape. I just love your taste and I think all of your options are really strong. I'm going to suggest Magnolia as a middle name for our LO to my DH tonight, I love it  - thank you!!

I think Olive Magnolia is beautiful.

-I like Olive paired with a longer middle name vs Maeve or Claire.
    -Claire Magnolia is very pretty.
    -Magnolia Claire is also great.
-My favorite nicknames for Magnolia are Lola & Maggie.
-I do love Olive. Middle names are really hard but I'll offer my favorite (it's my mom's name): Olive Lucinda.
-I like Violet but I prefer less popular names and think your other options are better. Lottie is definitely adorable.
-No wild suggestions - like I said, I think you are in great shape!

Good luck! Let us know what you decide!!

    - Is Olive Maeve too similar sounding? Yes
    - Is Olive Claire too choppy sounding when paired with a single syllable last name? (Think Smith...) Yeah a little
    - Is Claire Magnolia pretty? Yes
    - Is Magnolia Claire a nice choice? Yes
    - What are some potential nick names you could think of for Magnolia? My husband doesn't love this name, but I may be able to sway him with a great nick name. Nola, Maggie.  Could probably also use Lia, Margie.
    - If you love Olive, what would you pair it with? Olive Josephine, Olive Catherine
    - Violet Claire & Violet Maeve are others we considered, but we're unsure since we know so many new little Violet's born since summer. Should we get over that and still consider Violet? Is the nn Lottie as cute as it sounds in my head?  Agree with you, those two choices are very pretty but Violet is quite popular right now.  It's up to you how much this bothers you.
    - Any wild/out of left field suggestions for us that you think we should consider?  Based on your previously mentioned choices, have you considered Cordelia (nn Delia) Maeve?  Or Maeve Olivia?

Thank you everyone. You've really helped clear my mind tonight!

Now hopefully this babe decides tonight is a good night to come out and meet us. (wishful thinking)
  • I just want to say that I LOVE olive! We have it as our top pick if we are lucky enough to have another girl and plan to nn her Ollie while she is little. Best of luck!
We would use olive Rae because it is a family name, but olive Clair is nice and not too choppy. We also have a one syllable LN.
