How are you feeling? Pretty good. Yesterday, for the first time, I experienced food aversion. I was eating something I would normally like (even ate it happily the night before), and my stomach was just like, "Nope. Don't eat it." I didn't feel nauseated, just completely turned off by it.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes:  Telling my in-laws Monday! I've been pretty good about keeping it quiet, but I'm really excited to tell them. My mom is also dying to tell people. She keeps asking,"When are you telling people? Are you making an announcement at Christmas? Can I tell people?" And I'm just like, "NO!" Keep your mouth shut for another month and a half, mom!

How are you feeling? Sore boobs, headache (could be from muscle tension though) and starting to get nauseous at certain smells. Worse than before anyway. Wondering if MS is about to rear its head!

Doing anything baby related today? We were supposed to tell DH's mother. We wrapped a "Nana" frame with the due date in it and were going to have her open it on Skype. But she accidentally left the present at home and is at her mother's house now so we have to wait another day.

Rant/Rave/Positive Vibes: I'm finally allowing myself to get more excited about being pregnant. I caved and POAS (just one last one!) and the control line looked like a coloring pencil had drawn it and the test line looked like a purple sharpie had drawn it. So I feel much more relaxed now in hopes that this is a viable pregnancy.

Questions? Same question as yesterday because it didn't get answered (which I hope doesn't mean this isn't normal): Has anyone experienced an increased heart rate? I read that's normal due to the increased blood flow. But my normal heart rate is usually in the low 60s at rest, 70s if I'm worried about something and slightly over 100 when I'm working out. But yesterday, while at rest, my heart rate was 93. Had me a little worried even though I assume it's normal during pregnancy.

Since I was hired second they called me K2 to differentiate between us (my name starts with a K). Even after I graduated a lot of them still call me K2. It just sort of stuck.

@Cjboyle10 Yes! DH and I made a list of projects as soon as we found out we're KU. We'll be starting them after the new year as well. Our list mostly involves organizing and getting rid of things we don't need. We live in a two-bedroom townhome and need to make room for the baby. Plus I've come up with a creative way for the baby to share the guest room, so we'll be taking care of that as well. I'm excited to get started!

Well, one nickname I have is SheHulk, thus my SN.  I got it because one time, years ago, we were at a big party and this one guy was purposefully pissing me off.  Finally I snapped, lifted him by his shirt and slammed him into the garage door and held him there.  He just responded "woah, SheHulk" and everyone laughed and that put an end to him every trying to mess with me haha. The name just kinda stuck cause I was always the one out playing football, basketball, etc with the guys.

@JournoGrl23, I do not track my heart rate, so I can't say if mine has changed. If I had to guess, it could be due to blood volume increase but again, that's a guess. Do you feel badly? No heart palpitations or anything? As long as you feel ok, it is probably fine. However, if you are really concerned or it keeps climbing you can always call your ob! I will say that I've been in my ob's office like 3 times with all the spotting and the only thing they've checked stats-wise has been my blood pressure.

@Cjboyle10 we have a never ending list of projects!

@JournoGrl23 I think an increased HR is normal as I have noticed mine has raised some as well. You increasing the amount of blood is in your body so I would assume it has something to do with that, but regardless a HR 60-100 is considered normal.

@WinchesterGirl thank you. I am having heart palpitations but I've been getting those since the beginning of the year and have already had them checked out by a cardiologist. I get them frequently but they're benign. I will call my OB if I get worried about my increased heart rate.

@kcolly32 thank you. I'm glad someone else has noticed an increased heart rate. I read it happens I just didn't think it would this early in pregnancy. It sort of surprised me.

@JournoGrl23 I haven't had that myself (although I don't really track my HR regularly) but I know you have increased blood flow during pregnancy so could that be related? I would ask your doc just to check on blood pressure etc because that's something they're very aware of during pregnancy.

Then they started calling me Quetchie or Quetch for short all the time.. then apparently picked their own spelling bc by the time it stuck the shirt was long gone.  My highschool/ college sports nickname was Bene, it was the first four letters of my maiden name.  And still today when I see an old college teammate they have a hard time remembering my first name bc I was only known as Bene.

@JournoGrl23 I noticed mainly at night that my heart rate was up and I have a Fitbit that can track your HR which is the only reason I found out it has been slightly higher. Last year I had an ablation for SVT, which means my HR would shoot up to 260 out of nowhere. I think I'm just super sensitive to it since I've had issues in the past but if your not having any other symptoms I'm guessing this is normal part of pregnancy.

@kcolly32 I'm sorry about your heart racing like that. It sounds scary. I'm also really sensitive to my heart because I get PVCs regularly and they always scare me while they're happening. I'll at least tell my OB about them so she can decide if I need it looked at or not.

Rants/raves: I LOVE being a mom, but being early in pregnancy and chasing around a 14 month old has been hard. My husband was gone hunting today and I really just needed to lay around.

@JournoGrl23 my coworker has a portable blood pressure machine in our cube because he has high blood pressure and I use it every now and then to check mine. It measures heart rate, too, and when I checked on Thursday it was 89 (normally in the 70s or low 80s), so I think it's normal! I'd check with your doctor at your next appointment if you're worried, though.

Questions? What is everyone doing financially to plan for baby? I just found out most of my maternity leave will be unpaid and now I'm torn between trying to pay down as much debt as possible and saving as much as possible to make up the lost salary. Any advice?

This is a fun one to read! The only nickname I can think of is the pet name DH has for me. We were talking one night about how we don't use pet names for each other, and he started throwing out names as a joke. He said honey bunny cupcakes and I laughed and said it would never stick, it was too long. He took that as a challenge and still calls me honey bunny cupcakes - 5+ years later!

@AL_TwinCities I was wondering about this too, I'm not sure what my maternity leave pays... I need to look into it.  I'm not good with saving--- just spending! So I thought the first of the year, each grocery trip. I'll just pick up a pack of diapers,some wipes, Toilet  paper, etc. so maybe when the time comes I won't have to spend all that extra money while I'm off!

What is a nickname you have and how did you get it? Daniel.....So when my parents were expecting me, the gender scan ultrasound was wrong. They thought they were having a boy and had a girl. DH found out they were going to name me Daniel, so he calls me that from time to time as a joke. (Another fun fact, the same thing happened to me when I was PG with #1. I had 2 ultrasounds saying girl at 16 and 22 weeks and we had a boy.) It can and still does happen every now and then

@JournoGrl23 I agree with all of the others that increased heart rate during pregnancy is normal.  And your results are still entirely in the normal range.  I normally have a high heart rate (abnormally normal) so I'm just sitting on my couch, petting my dog, bumping, eating some cereal and my HR is 104.  Anxiety also makes the heart rate elevated so that fact that you are nervous about it and that pregnancy is anxiety provoking event in and of itself (good or bad anxiety lol) may also be contributing to the readings you are getting.  You may want to download an app if you have a smart phone and not look at what it says until it finishes reading.  Do it while you are relaxed and when you feeling nervous and see if there is a difference.  Also ask to get your thyroid checked if they haven't already checked it with your palpitations.  Sorry I'm going on and on but HTH

@Merocket59 Thank you! That was very helpful. I do have anxiety in general, and I've always noticed my heart rate increase when I'm either panicking or just feeling nervous or anxious about something. It is very likely that that's the reason my heart rate was even more elevated than usual the other night. I kept thinking about it, and it probably made it worse. I have had my thyroid checked recently, as well as my adrenals and my pituitary. My doctors thought the same as you regarding the palpitations and other symptoms I had, but everything turned out to be normal. So who knows what's causing them?
But I will track my heart rate when calm and when anxious now that I'm pregnant and see if there's a difference.

Are you able to save enough to cover your share of the monthly expenses for your time off (factoring in vacation and sick time) and then work on paying down debt after that? Depending on debt you may want to think about possibly refinancing since interest rates are lower now (we did that with our car that was bought at the peak of the market and it saved us a bundle). I've heard of the same thing for credit card debt as well (transferring some to a 0% for 12 month card). When running scenarios one thing to factor in is if you pay down debt, how much will that reduce the monthly payment due?

Also short term disability insurance may still be an option to help with bills (you'd have to see what the rates are, how much they pay for a preexisting condition, etc). My coworker just signed up for it since it will still pay out more than the premium she will pay even though she signed up after pregnancy so it's considered a preexisting condition.

@ramoseecology great suggestions! I already have short term disability, which will essentially pay me 70% of my salary for 5 weeks. So 7 of the 12 weeks I plan on taking will be completely unpaid, and 5 are partial pay. We are on an extreme debt paydown plan right now so maybe we will look into either refinancing some of the debt or scaling back our payments while I'm on leave.
