Terrified of my 12week scan!

Hi ladies!
Is anyone else terrified of something being wrong at your next scan? I have had 2 scans already and have heart and seen a healthy heartbeat both times, but I have an under active thyroid and I know that that can cause problems with pregnancy. I'm getting such anxiety for my scan next Wednesday, and just hoping that this is (fairly) normal? That other mama's out there are also scared or nervous?

Re: Terrified of my 12week scan!

  • I was insanely nervous before my NT scan (I attributed what actually seems to be a brief return to morning sickness to nerves that morning) but it all went away when the screen lit up and we could see the baby was much bigger than our dating scan and heard the heart beat. Just relax, you've had 2 good scans so far and your doctors are monitoring you. Good luck!

  • Any reason you're not on thyroid meds if you know your underactive?

  • I am on thyroid meds, have been for over 3 years, but pregnancy has changed my levels so my docs are sending me for all sorts of blood tests every few weeks and then changing/adjusting my dosage every time the results come back, because as the baby grows my levels will change! Just feeling really nervous. I know it's probably all in my head and everything is fine, but it's still scary!
  • I was hyperthyroid since 17 (now 27). It was normal for the past few years but now its hypo due to pregnancy. I didnt get this discovered till about 11 weeks or so. I was super afraid of how my baby would develop but my specialist said the my levels were not so far off and everything should be fine. I had to increase my dose a month ago and my most recent blood results came back within range. Trust me I got worried before each scan and lab work but everything is looking good and baby is big and strong. I will be 22wks tomorrow and had my AS this past monday. Feeling the baby kick really helps calm my nerves.
  • I have had 2 kids while having hypothyroidism and while it can affect your baby. You sound like your doctor is on top of it and doing things as normal. I never had a problem with any of mine they are healthy and happy kids now. As for the scared before the scan. I was super scared but not from thyroid stuff. Mine has started working again and I'm off meds for 3 yrs now. We all get nervous before a scan it seems but most times its for nothing. If you have had one already I would remember that it was ok and try and relax until the next. Good luck to ya.
  • I was so nervous before my NT scan that i couldnt even eat (bleeding in early pg so i was a bit extra paranoid about potential problems) but as soon as the tech put that wand on my tummy and we saw that little face . . . I think its quite normal to be a bit nervous before that scan. Be brave! Chances are is that everything will be fine : )
  • I had my first scan at a little over 9 weeks. Now, won't get to see my LO again until the 20 week mark. Kinda makes me nervous that I have so long to wait, but hopefully will get to hear the HB via doppler on my next upcoming appointment to ease my mind a little.
